Movie Reviews of Dumb and DumberMovie Review: One of the greatest comedies ever made Summary: 5 Stars
Jim Carrey is the funniest guy in Hollywood. Dumb and Dumber was his third movie in a huge strung of hits. Jeff Daniels is also great in the funniest performance of his carear. This is not a movie that should be taken serious at all, but watched and laughed at the dumbness and slapstick performance of the stars. You also have to love the Farrelly brothers in one of the greatest director debuts of all time.
Harry(Daniels) and Llyod(Carrey) are the best of friends. They want to start a pet store. Llyods current job is a limo driver. He chauffers different clients. One day he takes Marry Swanson(Holly) to the airport. She's leaving for Aspen,CO and leaves behind a suitcase in the airport. Llyod see's this and tries to get it to Mary. What he didn't know is that was the money that was suppose to be used to pay off the kidnappers that napped her husband.
Llyod is devestated and brings the suitcase to Harry. After much debate the two decide to go after Mary and deliver the suitcase. They don't know what's in it when they begin there quest to return the briefcase to Mary.
Jim Carrey is the man in this movie. His performance is awesome in this movie. At this point in his carear when he did this he was quickly becoming the biggest guy in Hollywood. This follwed up The Mask which had just fallen up Ace Ventura. His role as Llyod is one of the best of his carear.
Jeff Daniels is really funny as Harry. He holds his own against Jim Carrey and it's a shame he said no more comedies after this one. I think this is the best character and best performance of his carear.
These two are so great as Harry and Lloyd. This is one of the best pairing to ever appear in a movie. These guys have put me in tears because I was laughing so hard watching this. The jokes never get old. I've seen this movie probaly at least 50 times and I still laugh. I can say it along with them and still laugh. They are so funny.
The Farrelly brothers did a great job with their premiere movie. Mad props to these guys for making this hilarious movie.
If you want to sit down and laugh your butt off for almost two hours than this is your movie. There isn't anything to take serious with this movie, but sit along and enjoy this dumb funny ride that is Dumb and Dumber.
Movie Review: A Masterpiece By Carrey Summary: 5 Stars
Carrey's delivery always surpasses just funny or just professional and is subtley maniacle in perfection. There aren't many movies that can make your ribs hurt from laughing, and it takes a certain subtlety in the comedy to push you over the edge into histerics, but that is exactly what you have in Dumb and Dumber. There were some parts that I had to rewind and watch again half a dozen times just to salvage the subtlety of Carrey's hillarious delivery. Carrey is certainly the focal point of the movie. The plot and his character's side-kick are really just props that Carrey uses to bring about painful laughter in anyone watching, (and I'm sure he is responsible for thousands of people choking on their drink whilst watching this movie). The two main characters in the movie are losers living together with an ambition to save up and start a pet store selling worm-farms. The tongue-in-cheek sentimental scene with Carrey and his friend talking about whether to go to Aspen and return a briefcase to a girl or not is hillarious as Carrey's friend shouts, "I say we just find some work and scrape together the cash to start up the worm store", (I'm sure it was Carrey that was responsible for the idea of the two character's enterprise being in selling worm farms). Carrey's character says to a woman he is attracted to being driven in his taxi/limo "I've got worms". Only afterwards does he explain that that will be the name of his and his pal's pet store. Another hillarious scene is the dream sequence in which Carrey's loser character fantasises and imagines the girl really liking him. He fights waiters as one of them started kissing the girl's arm, and Carrey uses a kung-fu set that made my ribs hurt with laughter. One of the best things about Jim Carrey's comedy is that he seems to be an expert in a number of areas, probably having carefully practiced for years to get his art to where it is here, and he also always has an intelligence about his work, making use of cliche hyperbolically at times in just the right way and often using a very classical style that is truly mastered.
Movie Review: A Classic DVD and movie! Summary: 5 Stars
Dumb And Dumber is FUNNY! I have seen this movie enough times to remember some of the lines, and it just gets funnier and funnier. It never gets old. The story follows around two duffess named Lloyd Christmas, and Harry. These two live in Vermont doing odd jobs: Lloyd being a limo driver, and Harry being a dog cleaner, and are trying to start their own business: a worm store called 'I got worms'. Now Lloyd is brought to a clients house, the woman is Mary Swanson: played by Jim Carrey's first wife Lauren Holley, and Lloyd falls in love with her from first site. Mary is going to Aspen, and Lloyd replies 'Oh, California.' When Lloyd drops her off, he discovers that she left her briefcase, and tries to deliver it to her, but fails. Harry is late delivering one clients dogs, and now he gave them some food, and they are messed up with ketchup and mustard, and so he is fired, along with Lloyd. So as they head to their apartment, they are being watched by two people who were supposed to get the briefcase; they are kidnappers of Mary's husband, and in the briefcase is a million dollars for his release. Now as they drive around, they get no jobs 'unless they want to work 40 hours a week.' and they decide to go to Aspen and give Mary the briefcase, not knowing what is inside. So as they head to Aspen, Lloyd then making a wrong turn, and they end up in Nebraska, Lloyd then trades in the van for scooter, and they FINALLY get to Aspen, now they are stuck because they dont know where Mary lives; she is not listed in the phone book, they looked. So now as they get warm by a drum fire, Lloyd and Harry get into a fight, and they discover the money. So with the money, they agree that they are going to spend a few bucks and put the receipts in the briefcase so they can pay them back: they get a Presidential Suite, they buy a Lambourghini, they buy at least $20,000 worth of clothes, and they spend money like it was water. The movie is funny, and I am not going to spoil the ending, but funny though.
Movie Review: When Jim Carrey Was The King Of Comedy Summary: 5 Stars
To be honest, I don't exactly know how to review a film like "Dumb and Dumber", but suffice it to say that the entire film rests on the shoulders of one man: Jim Carrey.
Though so many crazy things happen over the course of this movie, the basic plot has two friends, Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Carrey), driving across the country to return a "lost" briefcase to a woman they met at an airport. While on first viewing you will appreciate the wild and wacky antics that Harry and Lloyd get themselves into (and everyone has their favorites, such as the bathroom scene, Seabass, or Big Gulps), upon multiple viewings you will realize that the true genius of the film is in the subtleties of Jim Carrey's magnificent acting.
Though Daniels provides a great "straight man" that the film sorely needed, Carrey really steals the show with his physical comedy and facial expressions. In nearly EVERY SCENE, one could laugh themselves silly just watching the facial expressions (the whiz in the bottle scene) and body motions ("I'll hang by the bar...and put out the vibe!") of Carrey. Basically, Carrey took the intense, prat-falling stage show he was know for around the comedy circuits, toned it down a bit, and created the most hilarious character ever depicted on film.
Of course, what really makes "Dumb and Dumber" stand the test of time is the "watchability" factor. There are few movies that will make me drop pretty much anything I am doing and watch them, but this film is EXACTLY that. It could be on every night of the week (and darn near sometimes is on TBS!) and I would still laugh just as hard at the same old jokes and scenarios!
Suffice it to say that after viewing this hilarious film, you "will like it ahh-lott". If not, you're pretty much just "one pathetic loser...no offense".
Movie Review: This one is truly great... Summary: 5 Stars
I must say that I have read all of the reviews and they all make sense. The overall feeling is that this movie is a piece of comedic genius (which it is) with one or two people thinking it is dimwitted humor. I will agree that the Farrelly brothers can get into some pretty obvious patterns with their scripts, but this one is "the original". And it does not disappoint. Secondly, I judge a great comedy movie by the amount of lines that I recite amongst my peers. As you can see from the other reviews, I am not alone in thinking that this movie is full of little morsels of comedy that you'll want to recite time and time again. For anybody that doesn't like it, try watching it again. I wasn't the biggest fan the first time I saw it, but it has gotten better and better every time I've watched it since. This is because there are two brilliant performances turned out by Carrey and Daniels. For anybody that thinks the humor is offensive and banal, I've got a suggestion for you. Try watching the movie from a different perspective. Instead of taking Lloyd and Harry at face value, try watching the movie imagining the actors behind the characters. It only makes it funnier. The face value of most of the humor isn't that great. But there something underneath each line -the delivery or tone or something - that make them absolutely hilarious. After you buy it (your welcome Amazon), watch it a second or third time and you'll see what I mean. By the way, my favorite exchange....Lloyd: Excuse me......Flo....What is the soup du jour? Flo: It's the soup of the day. Lloyd: Mmmmmm...That sounds good. I'll have that.
