Movie Reviews of Drop Dead GorgeousMovie Review: Very funny movie about a deadly beauty contest Summary: 5 Stars
This move came out after last summer's Austin Powers OK sequel! The movie takes palce in a Minnesota town called Mount Rose. The film is set up like a fake docementary. The main people in the moive are Kristie Alley(For Richer or Poorer), Ellen Barkin(Sea of Love), Densie Richard(Wild Things,Starship Troopers) and Kirsten Dunst(Jumanji,Interview with the Vampire,Dick) are all very funny! The contest starts turning deadly when the girls start dying off.Eventually the contest boils down to Richards and Dunst. The mother of one the girls was killing off the girls so her daughter could win! The ending is cute especially the upset girsl mad at the company for even starting the contest and going bankrupt! The DVD is great but it could of have a few more features such as commentary from the director, stars, behind the scenes, even how they etc! One of the best things about this DVD is whenever you choose someting off the main menu the girls fall dead! Overall I'll say it was better than Austin Powers seqeul becuase it spoofs the beauty contest industry right in the face! A must for viewers of any beuaty contests shown on TV! This movie was one of favorite movies beacuse it's so very funny!
Movie Review: Drop Dead Hilarious Summary: 5 Stars
If I could give this movie six stars I would. One of my friends introduced me to the movie, and in between gasps over the outrageous (and some would say offensive) things that go on in Mount Rose, I was laughing hysterically.Perhaps my hometown was a little too much like Mount Rose, but this movie was made all the funnier by the fact that I could identify each of the characters with someone at home. Everyone plays their parts to the hilt, which is good in a movie that is going for over the top, too insane to be true. Everyone puts on their best Minnesota accents, and you can never decide who does the best job, although my vote goes to Loretta, played by Allison Janney. Her man-crazy, alcoholic tendencies are played to perfection, and you'll laugh at her all the more if you know her as CJ from the West Wing. Don't try to take DDG seriously. It's not supposed to be serious, and there are too many hilarious moments for a person to even become confused. Just watch it, and you'll enjoy it. So far I haven't known a single person to watch it and hate it.
Movie Review: Hands Down the best comedy ever made! Summary: 5 Stars
Drop Dead Gorgeous is just one of those movies that everybody would love, and only a few actually see it despite nobody ever hearing about it. Playing on so many levels of comedy the movie can be enjoyed by preteens for physical comedy, young adults for the obvious humor and adults of all ages for the subtle remarks made by this fabulous cast. I can tell you that the movie is abrasive and has a certain shock value that some people may find uncomfortable at first. My grandfather is a real prude and doesn't usually like any dark or witty humor but I have never seen him laugh like he did when he saw this movie. My father loves it, my little brother loves it, my mother adores it and I belong to a "cult" with a couple of friends who love this movie too. I have given this a five rating despite the sloppy ending but the first, middle and last half of the ending make up for the floundering wrap up by leaps and bounds.
Movie Review: Too Close for Comfort.... Summary: 5 Stars
As a victim, er, veteran of a few small-town teen pageants myself, I fell over laughing at the realism of this movie. Ok, some things are exaggerated for effect, like the indenciary explosions, but the spirit of the competition is completely accurate. Pageants are blood sports. All the stereotypes - the stage mother/pageant director/former winner, the talented girl from the trailer park, the pedophile judge and the pay-offs - are for real. They have taken the slightest of artistic liberties with the characters, but the plot could have been lifted from life. They even taught the girl the pageant wave and the proper demure interview pose (seated on edge of chair, ankles crossed, hands folded in lap). Yes, America, there are places where people will invest thousands of dollars and make threats of violence to ensure a tiara on their daughters' heads. Oh, did I mention it's hysterically funny? Enjoy!
Movie Review: Great Satire! Summary: 5 Stars
OK If you don't get the humor of say Mad Magazine , the Simpsons or SNL, you probably won't appreciate this film. But if you do, and you can laugh at some "Traditional American Values" then you will find this funny. Now, just because they make fun of folks in the midwest and of people who live in trailer parks, and people who are religious does not suddenly make this not funny. Heck, they make fun of nearly every person they meet in the film. Hopefully you DO see a piece of yourself someplace in there and you can laugh at it!
Simply, its one of the funniest films I've ever seen. It was terribly marketed so few people got to see it. There are plenty of copies on Amazon for less than you'd pay for a bucket of popcorn. So if you like satire, and laughing, and enjoy a killer female cast, then I say get the film, turn off your sensibilities, and enjoy yourself!
