Movie Reviews of DresdenMovie Review: Enlightening Dresden's Day of Horror Summary: 5 Stars
I made a last minute decision to watch this on the History International channel. It's one of the best TV decisions I've made in a long time.
This is a fabulous tale of the horrors of war, humanity of all sides in a conflict and romance.
You can feel the horror building as the British planes approach Dresden and see the horror of the devastating firestorm following the massive bombings as more than 25,000 civilians were killed.
There is tenderness here, too. The characters are multi-dimensional. Even those we think have done terrible things, we know are conflicted and in at least case seek penance.
The photography and special effects are stunning.
I'll have to save my nickles and dimes to buy this one.
Movie Review: DRESDEN Summary: 5 Stars
I saw the movie "DRESDEN" on the History Channel and was impressed with the acting and realistic portrayal of the firestorm caused by the bombing. The film is especially meaningful for me, since I still remember the night of the bombing. I lived in a town which lies only 10 miles from Dresden. I remember walking streets shown in the movie after the war, when only ruins of Dresden remained. The movies ending was well done, showing the finished reconstruction of the Frauenkirche (Ladies Church) build in 1726-1743. The cross on top of the church was donated by one of the bomber pilot's son, whose father bombed Dresden that night. I will be sure to obtain a copy of this great DVD.
Movie Review: Dresden DVD Summary: 5 Stars
This German made-for-TV movie provides a very realistic view of what happened in Dresden at the end of World War II. The story line also provides a great deal of suspense. Anyone interested in the fire bombing by the Allies needs to watch this. It certainly is an eye-opener regarding the morality of the bombing in Dresden and other German cities at a time when the war in Europe was already essentially decided. We watched this just before travelling to Dresden and found the reconstruction of the city to be amazing, especially since much didn't occur until after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Seeing the recently-completed recononctructed Frauenkirche was amazing!
Movie Review: should have been on the big screen... Summary: 5 Stars
"Dresden" may have been a made as a TV mini-series, but it was clearly budgeted with formidable dollars behind it. The result is a film that looks and feels like a theatrical release and frankly, would have played well on 'the big screen'.
Camparable to a film like The English Patient, the story line is dual layered (love during war) and is not necessarily 'new', but it draws you in and carries you through, and the scenes are incredible, especially those during the burning, collapsing Dresden. They will blow you away!
Highly recommended!!!
Movie Review: Very Well Done Summary: 5 Stars
We love documentaries and accurate historical fiction, and thoroughly enjoyed this program on the History channel. Since we missed the first hour plus, I was happy to see this is now available on DVD, and pre-ordered it immediately. It was extremely well thought out, the characters were engaging and believable, yet the historical details were carefully crafted and well done. Highly recommended. Also recommended about WWII: Band of Brothers; The War.
