Movie Reviews of Dragonfly (Widescreen)Movie Review: An Eerie Supernatural Thriller Summary: 5 Stars
Dragonfly is a really good film. Kevin Costner gives a powerful performance as Dr. Joe Darrow. Kathy Bates does a great job as Joe's helpful neighbor, Miriam Belmont. Susanna Thompson also does a great job as Dr. Emily Darrow. The director, Tom Shadyac, also dis a fantastic job.The DVD is really good, but what else would you expect from Universal. The picture quality is crystal clear. The sound is aas good as ever on a DVD. The special features include: an audio commentary by the director, deleted scenes, a featurette on the making of the movie, and much more. Dragonfly is about Dr. Joe Darrow who is having trouble believing his wife is dead. Everyone around him tries to help, but he wont accept it. One night in the hospital he hears a little boy yell "JOE!". All of a sudden a boy flatlines and is rushed into the emergency room. They believe he's dead. Dr. Joe walks ur to him and he comes alive. The next day he goes to see the little boy. The little boy says he saw him in the emergency room the night before, but that he saw him from the roof. He said that his wife had something ergent to tell him. The little boy couldn't remember what it was. Joe's misson is now to find out what his wife wanted him to know. Many eerie things happen that he can't explain. Overall Dragonfly is A+ work. The story is so original and the actors sink into their characters. This movie is worth the rent and certainly worth the buy. Hope you like the movie, becuase I definately did. Thanks!
Movie Review: The miracles life of life-- Summary: 5 Stars
Life is all about miracles like the one in this movie. I don't think we even realize they are happening. But sometimes, as for Dr. Darrow, we do get hit over the head. I loved this movie because it is not over the top supernatural. This is real stuff - moving gently beside us at times. Of course, Darrow got a real dose but it was necessary for him to listen. Life is magic, sometimes coming at us with a force we cannot control. Yet, this was still only a light paranormal glued together with depth. Kevin Costner was brilliant - a man in grief so deep he can barely breathe and now he is walking around going, 'What the h*^#.' Kathy Bates, plows in and makes it all worse, after all when someone is 'spiritually awakened' one of the biggest mistakes is sharing their stuff with a 'normal' person. What I enjoyed most about the movie is that it has not ceased to move me, I watched it in 2002, 2004 and 2008, feeling the same impact. (Update by reviewer: watched in 2009 and 2010, I'm a fan.)

Movie Review: A great supernatural thriller! Summary: 5 Stars
"Dragonfly" is a movie I didn't hear much about before going to see. The main reason I went is because I enjoy films about the supernatural and this one didn't disappoint. When Joe loses his wife in a bus accident, he is unable to get past her death. A disbeliever, he is sure that he will never see her again until he begins to visit a children's ward and begins to receive messages through the dying children. From there on, he has to struggle with these signs and visitations, trying to figure out what is happening to him and if she still might be alive. This film is very frightening and the building suspense works very well. Its a subtle yet frightening film that will give you goosebumps if you watch it late at night. Both frightening and at the end uplifting, its a great film with a superb performance by Kevin Costner. To me this is one of his better films. I won't give away the ending other than to say it is very touching. All in all, a great film for one that is interested in the supernatural and near death experiences. Dragonfly is a frightening and great film!
Movie Review: Love - between life and death Summary: 5 Stars
This is a riveting movie staring Kevin Costner as an Emergency Room doctor who's wife, also a doctor, has died in a terrible accident overseas helping the poor. No spoiler there since her death occurs at the start of the movie. He is crushed by the death of his wife and goes through the motions of his life like a robot. Remembering that his wife asked him to check in on her pediatric cancer patients, he begins to visit them and grows to appreciate his wife's love and commitment even more than before. Then things begin to happen. The children he sees have seen her in near death experiences. He doesn't believe it. He doesn't believe in very much anymore and at first dismisses what these young children are trying to tell him.
I won't say more as it would likely ruin the movie experience for you. I'll just say that this is an insightful, deeply moving story that will leave you thinking for days. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. I highly recommend that you not only see this movie, but buy it as you will want to watch it more than once.
Movie Review: Guessing till the end Summary: 5 Stars
Terrific, love inspired tale of mystery and tragedy. Costner, a doctor, loses his wife in a tragic accident in and begins to get strange feelings and signs that she is perhaps alive or that she is trying to give him a sign from the other side? Thompson, wonderful from TV's Once and Again, is haunting and lovely in playing his doctor wife. With the help of the children on the cancer ward, Costner's character gets clues from his wife about the accident, but what does it all mean. The clues will keep you guessing along with Costner. Is he crazy, is he sane? He won't give up until he finds the answers out. And the truth will leap out and grab you heart and soul. DVD extras like the deleted scenes are wonderful, especially because they show how much of a different movie it would have been had they remained in. And the "Making of" is interesting to have Thompson spotlight her character because she doesn't have much speaking time on film.
