Movie Reviews of Dragnet (1987)Movie Review: "Just The Facts, Ma'am", Indeed Summary: 5 Stars
Dragnet is a 1987 remake(or parody depending on how you look at it)of the classic 1967-69 TV police drama starring the late Jack Webb. In this really funny action-comedy, Dan Aykroyd stars as Joe Friday, the nephew of the well-respected L.A.P.D. detective Joe Friday(portrayed by Webb in the TV series), as he teamed with a free-spirited beat cop named Pep Streebek(Tom Hanks). From the start, Friday and Streebek get into each-other's cases and drives one another crazy, but, under the guidance of Frank Gannon(Harry Morgan), the elder Friday's old partner, Friday and Streebek must work together to stop a power-mad religious figure and bring down a crooked L.A.P.D. commisioner. The special features includes a trailer of the film, a detailed history of the film's production, and bios of the cast and director. Dragnet is one of the best movies based on a TV show I have seen in a while.
Movie Review: Sometimes, like here, silly can be really funny Summary: 5 Stars
I did not expect this film to be as funny as it is. The general plot of an evil minister seeking money is not new, but Aykroyd does a splended job caricaturing Joe Friday of Dragnet and Hanks does a terrific performance as his partner. Aykroyd repeats many of Friday's behaviors often, but the script is written so well that one does not become tired of them, in fact they are repeatedly funny, as Jack Benny's jokes are. The writers usually find a way to tie them together. Examples are how Friday's maternal grandmother is named Monday. Also the final line of the film about Friday's girl friend pulls a lot of the earlier jokes together. Harry Morgan was a great straight man in the film. The only bad part of the film was Plummer's acting. I did not like his giggles. They were unnecessary, silly, and not funny.
Movie Review: Greatest movie of 5 Stars
This movie is combination comedy and drama. This one has Emil Muzz (Jack O' Halloran), a man who works for Jerry Ceaser (Dabney Coleman), a porno lord who lost some magazines in a warehouse fire set by Muzz, disguising himself as the Fire Chief of Los Angeles City. Muzz insists that he is a P.A.G.A.N. (Person Against Goodness and Normalcy). But, Joe Friday (Dan Aykroyd) finds out that Emil works for Jerry Ceaser. Pep Streeback (Tom Hanks) is his new partner. Bill Gannon (Harry Morgan) is their Captain. Harry Morgan played on the original Dragent series. The evil Johnatan Whirley (Christopher Plummer) is crazy. I would reccomend this to anyone.
Movie Review: Danny's deliciously devine in Dragnet! Summary: 5 Stars
This film is better and funnier the SECOND time you watch it. Tom Hanks and Dabney Coleman are hilarious! But it is ultimately Dan Aykroyd, who delivers in a finely tuned, and expert performance. No one can fire out those straight and long speeches like he can. It's a shame they couldn't of got more extras on this dvd. It would of been great to have had interviews with Tom and Danny or better still, some live commentry from these legends.
