Movie Reviews of Dragnet 1967 - Season 1

Movie Review: wonderful cheezy webcasts
Summary: 5 Stars

Jack Web brought us Dragnet first on radio (sponsored by Fatima longer cigarettes), then on TV, in its first iteration, and then this. This time the sidekick is Harry Morgan who played Col. Potter on TV Mash. There is something very reassuring about all of Web's opi. There is a beginning, a middle and an end. The police have infinate amounts of resources to throw at the problem de jur, the bad guys always lose and the city remains safe and buttoned up. Web uses his stock players and its fun to spot them. Remember that episode were she played. . .Bobby Troup who wrote Route 66 and was married to the singer Julie Christy reprises his role as bartender in the Big Bookie and so it goes. Webs cheeze factory which brought us 1 Adam 12 and what was it called Rescue One with its stock footage of the doors of the firehouse and the truck racing out over and over and over is alive and well here. The collection is worth purchasing for the Big LSD alone. What wonderful irony as Friday and Gannon light up their cigarettes while castigating Blue Boy for using LSD (which I don't particularly recomend if anyone cares what I particulary recomend). I remember how my blood used to boil back in the day when I watched these episodes for the first time. Now they are just period propoganda with shots of red Plymouth Barracudas. Jacks right up there with Robert Taylor, John Wayne, Ronald Regan, George Murphy, Heston and the rest of the Hollywood Right, only he did his deeds at work while the rest of them did it avocationally. Would he have made a good PResident? Maybe a California State Senator. Watch and decide

Movie Review: Where is Season 2?
Summary: 5 Stars

Dragnet is one of my favorite television shows of all time. I will agree, the transfer is not the best and there are no extras worth mentioning. I still love the set and don't mind having a second rate product as long as I have the episodes. (I did not experience any "freezing" in my collection.)

If you like Dragnet this set is a must have. My question is are they going to release the remaining seasons? It is a true
kick in the teeth to fans when a company releases a DVD set and does not follow up with the entire series. I believe that if they are going to realease a DVD set, they should commit to realeasing the entire collection! (The same thing is going on with Adam-12!) Thankfully, Universal saw it fit to release Emergency Season 2.

Universal, you baited us with Dragnet and Adam-12 Season One.
Maybe sales were not up to your standards, however, the die hard fans bought them. Please don't let us down.

Movie Review: 'I'm a tree...I'm a tree..... ' - BLUE BOY
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm glad to see that this great series is finally getting its release. Jack Webb and Harry Morgan made a great on-screen team, meshing to perfection as the ultimate cop 'odd couple' in the later episodes (1969-1970 season especially). I hope this sells enough to justify the release of the other seasons. As early, trend-setting cop dramas go, Dragnet should be at the top of everyone's list. Recent incarnations of the series have failed simply because NO ONE can play Sergeant Joe Friday but Jack Webb. Also, you can spot early mannerisms of 'COLONEL SHERMAN T. POTTER' in Morgan's stoic but fun-loving (?) Officer Bill Gannon. I always loved the way Webb used many of the same actors playing different roles in various episodes. Obviously, the man was loyal to a fault.
This will definitely be a part of my DVD collection, as will future seasons.

BOOK 'EM JOE!

Movie Review: Takes Me Back!
Summary: 5 Stars

Frankly, I don't know what all the whining is about! I bought my set at Best Buy, there were three disks. Two of the show and one with a Dragnet radio show on it. My set was great! There were a few playback problems, but nothing to worry about. This set brought me back to the days of yesteryear when Nick at Nite had this and other great shows like Get Smart. (Please get that one out right away!!) Jack Webb is a TV legend who's Joe Friday will long be remembered. Nobody else can play Joe Friday like him! Of all the incarnations of Dragnet, this one is the best! It's more humerous and more up to date with the times we live in. There's the classic, but sad story of the "acid head" Blue Boy and the funniest line I've heard on TV in a long time. ("I'll bet your mother had a loud bark.") Buy this set at one of the finer retail stores; i.e. Best Buy; then sit back and enjoy!

Movie Review: 1967 Dragnet
Summary: 5 Stars

The series took a new direction for the 1967 revival, but the chemistry between the stars in unmistakeable and worth watching. This set is attractively packaged. This is a great set for enthusiasts of the crime genre and the era.

However, the earlier run of Dragnet is far superior. Those old black and white episodes stand up to anything in modern crime drama. Look to those Classic Dragent episodes to see why the show is considered the godfather of Law & Order.

If you're new to Classic Dragnet, Amazon also sells a set called DRAGNET (25 EPISODES) -- The best and most complete collection of the many first-run Dragnet sets available. The set features 25 Dragnet episodes on 5 one-sided DVDs in a fold-out package with an attractive slipcase. Start there for to begin your collection.
