Movie Reviews of Dr. T & The WomenMovie Review: I watched it - now may I open my wrists? Summary: 1 Stars
They say that Alaska has one of the highest suicide rates in the nation. Personally, I think the highest suicide rate in the world will be found in any home showing this awful, AWFUL movie. I kept looking at my watch wondering how much longer the film had left before it ended. The young lady I watched the film with kept asking me what time it was almost every fifteen minutes during the movie. When it finished, we both thought the film seemed like it was 3 hours long because it was so difficult to watch. When it finally ended, she actually was angry at me and cursed at me for picking it out (I thought with Gere and Hunt, it would be a good movie - big mistake). For myself, I never felt so irritated by a film in my life. How could this get made? How could anyone say that Altman is a good director? And I thought he was supposed to be a liberal - this film has to be the most demeaning, degrading, obnoxious, offensive films about women I have ever seen. I am surprised that NOW wasn't rioting in the streets when this came out. In fact, I feel like rioting in the streets after having watched it! One of the least enjoyable move experiences I have ever had. Thanks for nothing, Robert Altman!!!Do NOT rent this film!
Movie Review: Do not waste your time Summary: 1 Stars
My biggest regret was not reading these reviews before I rented this colossal waste of time. I realize that most rentals are impulsive and we can't plan out our lives to go and browse Amazon reviews before renting, especially older stock like this seven year old garbage, but still...I have wasted my money so hopefully you don't have to.
No redeeming qualities about this movie at all. Sadly, I'm amazed at some of the reviewers saying that it is worth it to see Farrah Fawcett or Helen Hunt naked. And you admit this freely? Put away the tissues and get out of your parent's basement right now! The rest of you, avoid this. Despite some great actors and a reknowned director, this is not good. No characters to like - not one, a ridiculous plot, and an ending that is satisfying only because it is the rotten cherry on this terrible cake, so at least the ending is as bad as the rest of it.
The most bothersome thing is that you have reviewers who rate this so highly on the cover of the dvd, a shameful act of shilling for garbage that makes you doubt the integrity of the reviewer.
Movie Review: Another Mess Summary: 1 Stars
One can make comparisons between this movie and "Ready to Wear," another Altman disaster. They are both too busy, too pointless, too ridiculous, and too awful.
In one scene in "Dr. T and the Women," one of the doctor's daughters comes in his office, which is hectic and busy all day, and wants a few minutes to tell him his other daughter is a lesbian. Any child who had grown up with a physician father, or any father with a hectic, high pressure job, would know better than to go to his work place and ask for a few minutes to drop a bomb on him. They would choose the weekend, or at the very least, a week night to have a heart-to-heart. If you're going to make a big mess of a movie, at least have it be realistic.
With the great cast, you would think no way this film COULD be bad. This movie is so bad its almost unbelievable. Like another reviewer said, its not even funny bad. Its just bad.
Movie Review: WOW .... what a... Summary: 1 Stars
Why I watched this I'll never know. But one thing I do know is that this film was horrible. It's almost as if somebody said "Hey, let's make a movie with tons of great-looking people in it .... but have no real plot ..... and completely waste everyone's time and take their money." Richard Gere is surrounded by beautiful women, and he wants one of the most unattractive (both physically and mentally) of the bunch? That part was never explained along with several other parts of this movie, including the plot. On a lighter note, Farrah Fawcett played a great part as a complete space-case whacko .... oh wait, was she acting?
Movie Review: Just Plain Despicable Summary: 1 Stars
This may be the worst movie ever filmed. Its portrayal of women borders on the misogynistic, even though the lead character, Dr. T, is alleged to love women--his wife too much, even. The symbolism has all the subtlety of being beat about the head with a bat: It's a twister, get it? His life is in turmoil! The plot is disjointed and that ending... boy, is it bad. At first you think the screenwriter just gave up, but then you suspect perhaps he ingested hallucinogens. Some bad movies redeem themselves by being laughable. This one, as another reviewer pointed out, just makes you hate it.
