Movie Review: Down Argentine Way made Betty Grable a Star!

Down Argentine Way opens with the energetic and unforgettable Carmen Miranda, making her film debut. This wonderful Technicolor musical made Betty Grable a major star at Fox. Her star would shine for over a decade. Betty Grable and Don Ameche are brought together by their love of race horses and they would soon fall in love with each other. Charlotte Greenwood does a high-kicking dance number, but it is the Nicholas Brothers who steal the spotlight when it comes to dancing. Their dance routine is amazing. Carmen Miranda shines in a second song performed in a night club. This delightful Technicolor musical sparkles from the opening credits to the big rousing finale.Movie Review: BETTY GRABLE;s first starring film...and it is delightful...

it is...a circa 1940 TECHNICOLOR Fox musical...Betty is beautiful and
elegantly dressed...the music is pleasant...the color is bright...if
that isn't enough...well...you can buy CASABLANCA.
Movie Review: The Nicholas Brothers Shine!

I awarded this film five stars solely on the basis of the fact that the Nicholas Brothers are in it. Their stellar showmanship and sparkling dance routine are as good as it gets. I could watch them perform a thousand times and never get bored. They somehow managed to make the most difficult moves appear effortless. Now that takes real talent and countless hours of practice. The rest of the movie, in spectacular Technicolor, is a pretty routine 1940's romantic comedy, albeit with some interesting location footage shot "down Argentine way".Movie Review: Great old movie

If you love Betty Grable and Don Amiche and great tap dancing, this is your movie. The plot is pretty thin but people like Carmen Mirandi and other great character actors make for great enjoyment. BETTY GRABLE AND DORIS DAY ARE AMONGST MY FAVORITE FOR BUILDING A DVD COLLECTION.
