Movie Reviews of Double ImpactMovie Review: should have done a doublemint twin commercial too Summary: 4 Stars
There are several reasons why this film is one of my fav Van Damme films ever, and 2 twin brothers played by Van Damme is just part of the reason. Double Impact also gives us a decent plot and some great baddies, including everyone's favorite "Bolo Young" who has played the villain in numerous films such as Bloodsport, Enter The Dragon, Breathing Fire and Tiger Claws to name a few.
Van Damme's two roles are identical twin brothers by appearance, yet completely opposite by personality. The one brother, Chad, has been raised in France & California, and looks like the Zack Morris of muscles. The o ther brother, Alex, is definetly the much cooler of the two, with a touch of bad guy in himself and much cooler talkin. The interaction between these two are fun to watch, and probably had some success in the film, since "Replicant" was made several years later, also starring 2 Van Damme's with opposite personalities.
Bolo Young fans may want this movie just for him. While he barely has any lines, if any (and he never does in any films), he's just a dirty guy in this flick. With a nasty facial scar and dressed in the bad guy black suit, his presence is known, leading up to final fight with the Zack Morris Van Damme. The fight is short, but sweet. Yes, we get to see his ridiculousy crazy pecks in action.
The rest of the movie is not bad, but nothing spectacular. For a B-movie, this is one of the better one's The acting is so-so and the script is eh. Directing, ediitng, lighting could have been better but thats what you get with a lower budget film. I think Van Damme fans will still be very pleased, and no doubt this is one of his more enjoyable films. Stay away from anything made after 2000 if you want great classic Van Damme, the earlier films are where its at, and Double Impact is a great choice.
Movie Review: Brilliant Cheese for the action junkie! Summary: 4 Stars
I remember this one like it was yesterday; one of the earliest Van Damme vehicles that actually involved something approaching a modest budget (well, they total two Mercedes in one scene) and a script! What this film did right was the inclusion of multiple villains, necessary not only because there are two Van Dammes, but because all of the classic martial arts films involved many enemies as well. Recurring VD villains include Peter Malota (the Spanish fighter in later film "The Quest"), whose blue-lit kickboxing scene with Jean-Claude is one of the best in recent memory, and famed "Enter The Dragon" baddie (and longtime martial arts staple) Bolo Yeung. It helps that Van Damme also has veteran character actor Geoffrey Lewis on board; that kind of gruff, Sam Elliott presence makes up for a lot of acting acumen that is lacking in the rest of the cast. Peter Scarfe stars as the embodiment of evil, and Alonna Shaw as the embodiment. The pacing is good; the script has some howlers, and the shooting locations are to die for. Look for a very early cameo by Julie Strain!
Movie Review: Double The Van Dammage! Summary: 4 Stars
Jean-Claude Van Damme was making the best of his films in the beginning to the middle of the 90's.Death Warrant started out his action hero character and after that hit box offices Van Damme went full throttle in a number of other great action adventures. So we come to Double Impact,a film directed by Van Dammes long time buddy Sheldon Lettich. Two Van Dammes are always better than one,but now in 2003 if an action star duplicates himself,it's just downright stupid, action audiences have seen that combination way to much in recent years. But Double Impact was one of the first to do it,and to this day Double Impact is one of the best downright action films.Van Dammes acting is good and his cheorographed fight scenes are clever and original. This film deserves it's props and I'm here to give Van Damme his due,way to go!
Movie Review: DOUBLE THE FUN! Summary: 4 Stars
In this madcap caper comedy, Elvis Presley plays a singing, swinging, lothario being chased across Europe by adoring mini-skirted lovelies and some VERY inept jewel thieves. Complicating matters even further is a nasty subplot involving an unscrupulous uncle's attempt to "off" his own neice and claim her inheritance for himself! But as always, the big attraction here are the songs, which include "I Love Only One Girl," the obligatory catchy title tune, and, best of all, Presley's masterful reading of "Old Macdonald." Put this on your shelf next to the best of Chaplin, Sellers, and Allen; u won't be disappointed you did.
Movie Review: Not bad...but certainly not the best. Summary: 4 Stars
Vandamme, is up there with Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal and a few others. This is not one of his best movies(See Hard Target or Universal Soldier). But it is enjoyable non-the-less. He plays two brothers which were separated at six months of age only to re-unite 25 years later as total opposits. One, a gruffy street-smart semi-thug, the other a ladies man martial arts instructor. The difference in the characters are vast and comical. If you have never seen a Van-damme film, don't start with this one, if you are, then enjoy.
