Movie Reviews of Domestic DisturbanceMovie Review: A better movie then you think its going to be Summary: 3 Stars
Yeah, I'll admit that I watched this disc with very little in the way of hope or expectations but an hour and a half later I was pleasantly surprised at this little thriller. While this film's foundation is comprised of typical 'B-movie' elements the film certainly over-achieves by way of Harold Becker's taut direction and Travolta and Vince Vaughn's excellent performances making this a better thriller then it deserved to be. As far as overall disc production goes, the video transfer is average at best while the 5.1 Dolby is slightly better. Extras are skimpy as well with a commentary track by Becker, a handful of deleted scenes and a few storyboard examples. Is the disc ultimately worth your purchase? Probably not - but certainly worth your rental dollar should you find yourself craving a well done b-movie thriller.
Movie Review: Less than mediocre story... Summary: 3 Stars
Frank (John Travolta) is concerned about his son Danny who is often getting into trouble. It seems like it stems from his ex-wife remarrying with Rick Barnes (Vince Vaughn). Frank's ex-wife also wants him to try to help Danny become more accepting of Rick. Frank finds it hard, but understands the dilemma and does what he thinks is best for Danny. Frank even attends his ex-wife's wedding in order to make Danny feel more comfortable with the situation. At the wedding, Frank meets Ray Coleman (Steve Buscemi) whom shows up unexpectedly and it seems to make Rick feel surprised and uncomfortable. It seems like Rick has a dark past together with Ray and it is about to cross Danny's future. Domestic Disturbance is a thriller that has a terrific cast, but they do not save the less than mediocre story.
Movie Review: Don't Even Bother. Summary: 3 Stars
This is what I call a "Neutral Movie". It isn't bad or good at the same time. It's supposed to be a thriller, but it has no twists or turns. This is the reason why I almost skipped the end. Looking at the rest of the movie, I could easily guessed what the ending would look like and it would to be. Also, the acting doesn't make up for it, all it does is equal it. This makes it seem longer than it is. If I could have given some advice to the makers of this film, I would have suggested to atleast put an alternate ending on the DVD. So, overall, "DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE" is not worth the your money because a "Neutral Movie" doesn't anything, and you won't want to watch this movie again, because there's nothing to be confused about in this film.
Movie Review: Travolta is great, movie is mediocre Summary: 3 Stars
It's like the old good-cop, bad-cop routine. Except this time, it's Good Dad and Bad Dad, and the two are decidedly not working together.Enjoyable from beginning to end primarily because of Travolta's intense performance, the major fault of this film is that it is too obvious. Good and bad are too clearly defined and clues are too clearly marked. It's the movie you expect it to be from the beginning, complete with a fantastic "Good Dad to the rescue!" whoop-a** moment in the final confrontation between good and evil. But even with no twists to follow, the characters are engaging, Travolta is marvelous, and the movie overall is decently composed. SheLikesDVDs.com - Entertainment reviews by and for women
Movie Review: Worth Renting For A Couple Of Bucks Summary: 3 Stars
This was a decent thriller with good-guy "Frank Morrison" (John Travolta) trying to save his former family from the dangerous new husband. That's not a new theme in Hollywood movies (the dangerous husband) but this is acted well and presented without heavy-handedness. They were smart to keep the story relatively-short, too, at 89 minutes. As a consequence, nothing dragged.
To me, the film would have been more enjoyable had the 12-year-old boy been a nicer kid, but he's an annoying brat. The mother (Teri Polo) is not that endearing, either. Definitely a movie that will entertain but a one-look film and nothing more, especially with the ending being as predictable as it turned out.
