Movie Reviews of Domestic Disturbance

Movie Review: "Domestic Disturbance" is entertaining with its high-tension suspense and great action
Summary: 4 Stars

"Domestic Disturbance" is a thriller about a divorced couple and their child. Frank (John Travolta) has to deal with a man marrying his ex-wife Susan. The guy (Vince Vaughn) is well liked by the community, but there are hints of something being amiss with him. Frank's son claims he witnesses his mother's new husband Rick commit murder. The more Frank investigates Rick, the more suspicious he looks. The investigation spurs a game of cat and mouse.

There is great interaction between Travolta as a concerned parent and Vaughn the cold heartless type. The tension between them breeds suspense. The would-be new father uses his craftiness to manipulate those around him. There are few things he wouldn't do to get his way.

"Domestic Disturbance" is entertaining with its high-tension suspense and great action. I highly recommend it for those who enjoy a thriller that will keep you guessing to the last minutes.

Movie Review: FATHER KNOWS BEST
Summary: 4 Stars

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE is a by the book, easy to predict potboiler, but one directed with sharp verve by Harold Becker and given a boost by the performance of Matthew O'Leary as young Danny. O'Leary went on to show his incredible range in FRAILTY, but in this movie, he brings his doe-eyed innocence and fervent fear to form the core of the movie. John Travolta does well as Danny's father, although he sometimes seems overburdened with trying not to act like Pulp Fiction; Vince Vaughn is appropriately menacing as the wicked new stepfather, but we never really understand his motivation for marrying Polo in the first place. Steve Buscemi shows up in his usual seedy bad guy role, but doesn't get much of a chance to do anything with it.
This is an entertaining movie, and works because it attacks our primal fear of something happening to our kids. It's to O'Leary's credit that it works so well.

Movie Review: Worth Renting
Summary: 4 Stars

Frank Morrison (John Travolta) is a hard-working boat builder and devoted dad who is naturally wary of the new man (Vince Vaughn) in his ex-wife's (Teri Polo) life. His wariness turns into outright distrust when his son (Matt O'Leary) says that he saw this guy commit a murder. The problem is, nobody will believe the kid because he has a history of lying and getting into trouble. Frank becomes the only one who will believe the kid's story.
Enjoyable thriller is maybe a little bit better than most because it's actually mostly believable instead of contrived. It is also helped by genuinely good acting, especially by Travolta and Steve Buscemi. For such a short movie, it packed in a lot of great suspense and a good plot. I would suggest this to anybody who likes to feel tension during a movie!!

Movie Review: Better Than Average Suspense Film
Summary: 4 Stars

Boy, there are a lot of jaded, really picky film fans out there. I don't understand why this movie got slammed so much but maybe my standards are not very high. Whatever, I enjoyed this story of the oily stranger who wins the heart of the mother, endangers the son, and brings the father/ex-husband to the rescue. No, it's not original but I found it pretty scary and very well done by both Travolta and Vaughn. Teri Polo didn't have much to do for most of the film but she did it acceptably and the young actor who played Danny was fine.
In all, I found this to be a much more involving suspense tale than many I have seen and I would recommend it without reservation.

Movie Review: Thrilling
Summary: 4 Stars

In Domestic Disturbance, John Travolta stars as Frank Morrison, a man who's ex-wife is getting married. Frank's son, Danny, has a turbulent relationship with his stepfather, Rick, but things get worse when Danny witnesses Rick commit murder. Since Danny has a history of lying and there's no evidence, nobody believes him, except for his father. Frank goes on a relentless pursuit to prove that his son's allegations are true.

John Travolta and Vince Vaughn (Rick) both deliver fantastic performances. Overall, this was a great, suspenseful movie that I recommend checking out.
