Movie Reviews of Dog Soldiers

Movie Review: "Dog Soldiers" will grab you by the throat
Summary: 4 Stars

This is one helluva good little movie.A group of British soldiers in the Scottish Highlands fight off a pack of wolfmen while hold up in an old cottage.Great suspense and terrific action abound in this low budget jewel while the soldiers try to survive until daylight. Its really good to see a film work with downhome special effects to make a good movie as opposed to those computer generated Hollywood slick looking movies. The wolves are believable as hell and the gore is really....well.... very gory.Intestines are ripped out and meat is eaten when the pack makes a kill and they make quite a few.
This is the first werewolf movie Ive seen that made the wolves look real and act scary.Face it , the werewolves reputation suffered at the hands of David Naughton and Jason Bateman so its really hard to make a movie where werewolves really come across scary .In this movie they do.
Just about everything is perfect in this little movie--a secluded cottage and the misty Scottish weather and the gloom of the woods and the impending nightfall all add up to a great setting for this man vs werewolf fight for survival.
If you like horror then see this movie ,it will put those big budget slick Hollywood pieces of crap you usually watch to shame.

Movie Review: Really Nice
Summary: 4 Stars

It is hard to believe this is a first film from the writer/director. He has some real talent and a long career ahead of him if he keeps up this quality of work in the horror field. After seeing commercials for the Descent and hearing rave reviews, I decided to go and look up the first film from Marshall. This is a fantastic surprise, and being a horror fan, I am really surprised I let this one slip by when it was first released. The story is fairly straight forward with a squad of British soldiers being dropped off in the Scottish highlands for a training mission. Along the way they find the slaughtered remains of the special ops team they were to compete against. From there, it is non stop action to the end with werewolves against soldiers. Even though this is a low budget film, it is very high quality and the acting is solid. Though sometimes the British accents are a little thick and with unfamilar slang to American ears. This is a great little film, and I am going right out to catch The Descent as soon as possible.

Movie Review: Soldiers versus the supernatural
Summary: 4 Stars

Dog Soldiers is a great action movie with the supernatural-horror theme. Finally, a horror story with some authentic heros who hand out a good fight to the forces of evil instead of the usual helpless mortals running, hiding and quivering. I especially enjoy British military flicks as they are often very accurate in there tactics and rarely do any fancy Hollywood stunts or patriotic flag waving. as that the military action scenes were very accurate and believable. O.K. so the werewolf slant had a few flaws. But, the film was non-stop kick-butt, right to the end.

Movie Review: it won't matter, they won't die
Summary: 4 Stars

I rented this on the recomendation of a loyal video store clerk who convinced me not to get The Howling, and I must say thumbs up to the clerk.
The special features here include interviews with actors saying that this is not a werewolf movie with soldiers, but an army movie with werewolves, and I think this sums it up nicely.
This reminded me of Predator (not just because of the ad on the box) in that a sqad of soldiers goes on a mission under false pretenses and ends up in a world of hurt when "the creature" comes into the story.
Wonderful acting by all actors (Sean Pertwee and Kevin McKidd are great), and the lack of werewolf FX keeps this from becoming a cheap horror flick. I even forgive the makers for not putting in a transformation scene (which has been done to death).
Very fun, full of action and genuine humor.

Movie Review: Those are some big werewolves
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading all the great reviews I had to check out Dog Soldiers. Luckily it worth worth the purchase. I found it very entertaining as far as werewolve flicks go. The werewolves themselves were like 8 feet tall and great. Definately one scary looking pack of wolves.

The film follows a group of soldiers going on a trial mission only equiped with guns holding blanks. As they move through the woods they come across a site were a group of secret ops were torn apart leaving only one survivor. They soon realize what they are dealing with is far beyond what they have ever been trained for.

I would definately recommend Dog Soldiers especially if you are a fan of werewolves. Very entertaining and comical at times. My only slight complaint was that it could've been much more suspensful at times, but overall was very good.
