Movie Reviews of Dog SoldiersMovie Review: DON'T MISS IT Summary: 5 Stars
Lately horror films are becoming stupid and simple. Brainless plots, remakes, sequels... Nothing new. But occasionally some director makes something that deserves to be watched and liked. And I have to say that more and more of these movies now are not born in Hollywood but across the Atlantics. European horror gets strength particularly in Britain. Of the latest ones "28 Days Later" and "Dog Soldiers" come to mind first. At first glance there's nothing original in "Dog Soldiers" - a typical werewolf tale. But it's just at the first glance. Here a squad of british soldiers during the maneuvers is being attacked by werewolves and has to hide and hold defence in a small cabin amidst forests of Scotland.
The movie is very sinister, the atmosphere of the dark woods is obscure and disturbing, werewolves themselves are very well done - they are really frightening and unpleasant. But one of the main things I liked about "Dog Soldiers" is that the characters don't behave stupid, their actions are not like in many other horror films when you want to scream: "Don't do it, fool! Don't go there alone! You all have to stay together!" and so on. Here all are doing the right thing and don't act stupid or strange. Maybe because they are soldiers.
Don't miss this film, you'll find a lot of pleasure watching it especially if you like good old horror tales.
Movie Review: Amazing! A Must See! Summary: 5 Stars
I won't go over the plot as it's been covered. Suffice to to say this is one Helluva movie and (no offence) but something the americans could never do as their major studios churn out the same old same old with cheesy one liners.
With Dog Soldiers, you won't know whether to laugh or cry. It's not a comedy by any means but plenty of hilarious bits at the craziest of times and the dialogue is witty, fast and furious.
The werewolves are non CGI which is such a boost considering how crap CGI is (Jurassic Park apart).
As stated in other reviews it's a heady concoction of Aliens-Evil Dead-Zulu-Jaws-The Howling and you really feel for all the characters (unlike most horror films where the cast is just there to be eaten/killed and you don't care).
Best of all it has Englishmen talking and acting like real Englishmen and not the upper class, somewhat homosexual toffs that the Americans tend to portray us as (and think of us as).
Ooh! Hugh Grant ahs a lot to answer for!
There is even a woman who is sexy without resorting to getting naked in a gratuitous shower scene!
A real hoot from start to finish!
Rent it! Buy it!
Especially you Americans who were denied a theatrical release!
Movie Review: WONDERFUL, but bloody and disgusting--now one of my favorite movies Summary: 5 Stars
From Director Neil Marshall, who also directed the horror girly movie, "The Descent."
This is just plain high class British horror, with fantastic acting, wolfies that are huge, disgusting, terrifying (and really, real looking!)
Special yahoos for actors Sean Pertwee and Kevin
Plot--Special Forces group on mission (pseudo-style) that turns into a werewolf horror fest. The group of elite officers are all looking at each other like, "You have got to be sh......ing me." They are all running over hills and through trees trying to pick these creatures off, but a few of the army buddies get body readjustments in the attempts. I love the one guy who get some claws to the stomach and the 24ft of bowel and intestine are dragging behind him, but!!!, his mate seems to stuff the sausage back into him and use super glue and a surgical device instead of stitches.
You have to watch this flick, it is just bloody disgusting, but the writing is terrific, directing good, acting fantastic. Even the British country side is quite pretty to look at--Give it a try........
Movie Review: one of the creepiest movies EVER Summary: 5 Stars
I love horror movies, and like to think I know good horror from bad horror. Violence with blood and gore alone does not make a great horror movie. What makes a horror film great is feeling terrified for the characters while you are watching it and getting that "uncomfortable" feeling yourself while watching it-(fans of good horror know what i mean)
This movie has some blood gore and violence, but what makes it great is it truely well made and creepy as hell. I hate to admit it, but I had to stop watching it 2/3 of the way b/c I needed a break. I did manage to start it again after I had recovered. It is terrifying. excellent werewolves, creepy atmosphere, tense throughout, just awesome. I dare you to watch it alone at 2:00am with the lights out!!!
buy this dvd you will not be
also, for fans of british horror, check out "deathwatch"- another creepy movie from our UK friends. not as good as dogsoldiers, but an excellent flick.
Movie Review: SAS, meet werewolves-werewolves, meet SAS... Summary: 5 Stars
This film is frightening in a quiet sort of way...I enjoyed it immensely. It was an especially scary watch, considering I was living an hour away from my military base in the backwoods of the Thetford Forest, in the East of England, in the middle of the night across from a patch of said spooky forest. Delicious. The plot is solid, the special effects adequate to the story, the acting good. I like that it is so quiet, and brings a fairy-tale creature into the modern age so deftly, without the usual American Hollywood theatrics. What would a military unit do if met by a group of supernatural beasts? Hmn... this film offers a good answer. (I do so like werewolves! Check out Ginger Snaps Back -the prequel to the corny Ginger Snaps- it is also quiet. My inner 16-year-old liked it alot, as it is a bit on the young-female-empowerment side. Watch for the scene that shows just how gutsy Ginger is when faced with a jerk of a captain.)
