Movie Reviews of Disturbed: M.O.L.Movie Review: If you like Disturbed, you'll love this DVD Summary: 5 Stars
Disturbed have been quoted as saying they hope their music can be a tribute to Black Sabbath. As much as Sabbath was ground-breaking, I feel Disturbed has surpassed them. I love the energy of the music, the depth of the lyrics, the melodies (yes *melodies* in metal songs!). I feel Disturbed and a handful of other bands like Chevelle and Seether have succeeded in creating a new genre: melodic metal. After I listen to Disturbed, just about every other style of music seems limp, bland, and without energy. There are other bands with the intensity of Disturbed, but few have their diverse, intricate, catchy melodies.
This DVD has some live music (some even quite old... like when David had some hair!), but personally, I prefered the behind-the-scenes, backstage, between-gigs stuff. The guys are *real*... they don't have attitudes. When you see David Draiman in concert, you would expect that the commanding presence he portrays on stage would also be part of him in real life, but it isn't. He's very down-to-earth and personable, laying on some hotel bed, clutching a pillow, talking about life, the universe, and everything. There's a segment on each of the guys, where the other three talk about them. After watching this DVD I had two regrets... I felt it unfortunate that Fuzz had left the band, because at least on this DVD, they sure seemed to get along. The second regret was that I didn't know of the band back when they were playing small clubs around Chicago, because I would have gone to all their shows.
The bottom line for me on this DVD is that these are very talented, hard-working, happy guys, who are thrilled to be able to make a living at playing music. These are guys I would like to invite to my bar-b-ques.
