Movie Reviews of DisraeliMovie Review: Disraeli Summary: 5 Stars
An excellent film (all 4 episodes) in every respect- acting,scenery,dresses,dialogues-I have watched all of it twice until now and I think it goes a long way towards placing the viewer in the centre of events. However,I had to do a lot of reading to follow the exact chronological sequence of events-even British viewers shall have to do that since it is not easy to recall the precise circumstances of the often alternating succession of British Prime Ministers of the time-Peel,Russell,Derby,Aberdeen,Palmerston,Disraeli,Gladstone...I think a
relevant one-page note should be incuded in the DVD box. And lastly-concerning historical accuracy and fairness, I think the film does not do
justice to Disraeli's rival, W.E.Gladstone, a very moral person and, argueably, the best 19th century British Prime Miniser (the contestant to that quality being Lord Salisbury)--I think a film on Gladstone, if ever there was made one - should restore this evident unfairness...
Movie Review: Must-own for Ian McShane fans Summary: 5 Stars
I was first taken by Ian McShanes performance as Al Swearengine in Deadwood. But it wouldn't occur to me to research his filmography for another 4 years. In the interim I had run through the Deadwood series another 3 -4 times.
So I went on a spree and Disraeli was the first to arrive. I was thoroughly entertained. I'm not too keen on period pieces, especially the older british ones. I half expected Ian McShane's performance to dominate and it did. However, the performance of the entire cast was almost if not equally as amazing. I recommend Disraeli because I was thoroughly entertained and the movie has high 'rewatchability'...you know what I mean.
Movie Review: Diraeli Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend this DVD. Being interested in British history, I could not help running accross Disraeli's name. He is mentioned so often in the history of Victoria and yet no details have been mentioned in the normal historical writings. When I saw the DVD on him, I thought what better way to get a synopsis of his life, if it is well done. It is. A very interesting man who was so very unlikely to get to his place in history. Ian MacShane did a wonderful job portraying him. It is amazing how he was able to age throughout the story, as he was rather young at the time, I believe. A great story and well told!
Movie Review: Great DVD, give it a change. Summary: 5 Stars
At first I was somewhat disappointed, as this product was more like a play than a movie.
Maybe so, but excellent for what it is. Furthermore, it contains a lot of nuance and detail that I could not absorb the first viewing.
Very interesting from many different aspects, Historical, Political, Personal, Literary, Disraeli the convert.
I enjoyed this very much, and also find much relevancy to US politics in the current time.
Highly recommended.
BTW, the acting and actors are superb, especially Mr. McShane.
Movie Review: Long Term Fan Summary: 5 Stars
I saw Disraeli when it was first presented on BBC tears ago. It made an impression on me then and is one of the few TV drama's I have remembered. When I saw it was available for purchase, I bought it.
