Movie Review: Funny, Even if it is Different from the Game
Summary: 5 Stars
If you like classically ridiculus anime then this is for you. The animation is lively and the english voice acting is done very well, you'll recognize the voices from the game as well as many other animes. The story is simple enough and the characters are likable.
I have played Disgaea for the PSP and the stories differ, but its enteresting to see how the stories are different. And if you are a fan of the game the character designs are also straight out of the game. So go in with an open mind if you've played the game, you'll rarely find any book, comic, game, or manga thats an exact match when its translated to another medium.
Personally even if I hadn't played the game I think I still would have enjoyed this.
Summary of Disgaea - The Netherworld Prince (Vol. 1)
The King of the Netherworld has died and various demons are now building their own empires in an effort to take control. However, the late King's son has arrived and is out to reclaim his rightful place as ruler of the Netherworld! Along to help him is his vassal; Etna with her Prinny squad, and Flonne, an angel-in-training originally sent to assassinate the king only to find that he has already died. Join our three intrepid, and somewhat eccentric, heroes as they initiate their plan to conquer the Netherworld, Heaven and Earth!Angel-in-training Flonne is on a mission when Disgaea (2006) opens: she's charged with assassinating Krichevskoy, the King of the Netherworld--who died two years earlier. Flonne inadvertently awakens Krichevskoy's son, demon-prince Laharl, who sets out to claim the throne. When Flonne lectures him about love and?kindness, Laharl replies with crushing honesty, "You're pretty dense, huh?" As the conflict escalates, Laharl's old vassal Etna arrives with her sub-vassals, the Prinny squad, who look like robotic penguins. Flonne gets help from higher-ranking angels. The Buck Rogers-eque Captain Gordon arrives from Earth in his space ship, complicating matters still further. Based on a video game by Nippon Ichi, Disgaea plays like a reworking of Chrono Crusade, enacted by the cast of A Little Snow Fairy Sugar: The main characters are all small and skinny, with kawaii (ultra-cute) bulbous heads and enormous eyes.
