Movie Reviews of Discover BellydanceMovie Review: belly dance Summary: 4 Stars
First off, I have to say, THESE ARE NOT EXERSIZE DVDs. At least, not at first. Sure, once you've learned them all and can do the dances, I suppose it is exersize. And all movement is really some kind of exersize, right? But these DVDs are not designed to help you lose weight, or even become more flexible, or whatever- they are designed to teach you how to dance belly-dance.
That said, if you want to learn how to belly-dance, these are fantastic. The two dancers are great, and it starts out slow, building to more complicated moves. My only complaints- yea, the voiceover is lousy (but once you've gone through the dvd a few times to get the gist, you can turn her off) and when they put the moves together at the end, they put ALL the moves together at the end, instead of building one on another and then starting over to build another. But that's what pause and rewind are for- so if you do want to learn, this is the set to get.
Movie Review: Just what I was looking for Summary: 4 Stars
I was hoping to find a bellydance tape that could introduce me to the art of bellydancing, while giving me a break from my daily routine exercises. Very interested in all types of dance, what I love about this DVD is that you are learning actuall steps that lead up to a dance routine. The DVD breaks down basic moves in the first of the series-Basic Dance. I'm curently still working with this one, hoping to master all the steps, before moving on to the next level. Its easy to follow, but the moves take pratice to do well. I find the music is relaxing with a great beat. Veena and Neena demonstrate each move well and give you plenty of time to take in what they are doing and duplicate it yourself. I really enjoy the first DVD and look forward to moving to the next level in the series.
Movie Review: Nice, Slow, Great for Beginners :-) Summary: 4 Stars
I have not been able to get through an entire video so far-- But I really did enjoy the beginning segments of all the videos. This portion was a preview show of what you'd be learning next. It had no instruction. Just music, and belly dancing.
I found that the instruction was too slow for me... That is my only complaint (and why the video got 4 stars instead of 5). I was fast forwarding a lot, skipping ahead to areas I actually need help with.
The twins are fun to watch, but the instruction is slow. They break down everything... including how to take a step forward and pick up your arm. I've got experience in dance, but I've never belly danced before.
Movie Review: Great all around set Summary: 4 Stars
This was my first belly dancing DVD and I am a complete beginner. It breaks everything down and explains each move very well. The set is gorgeous but not distracting. They put all the moves together in a very well choreographed dance at the end and the first time I watched the video i was able to perform the dance reasonably well. They show you alot of great moves, everything i wanted to know. There are also some great bonus performances. It was a great video set and a great value. I would recommend this to any one new to belly dancing up to an intermediate dancer.
Movie Review: Bellydance for Dummies Summary: 4 Stars
Perfect for the first-timer. Their form is something for any dancer to aspire to. Elegant arms at all times. Very slow and dissected moves- NOT a workout dvd.
I thought it a bummer that the dvd did not end in a complete routine for all of the time spent... the routine they teach does not last the length of one song so it doesn't supply the gratification of learning a choreography you could show off or anything...it is like a teaser to bellydance. If you enjoy these dvds- anticipate the inevitable: you will be spending more money very soon.
