Movie Reviews of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Movie Review: Funny! Funny! Funny!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is by far the funniest film that I have ever seen. What's more, you can see it several times and still laugh each time!! Steve Martin (Freddy) and Michael Caine are just so completely unlike one another. One's rough, loud, unsophisticated, oily. The other's sharp, suave, a gentleman. But underneath it all, both are essentially the same- dirty rotten scoundrels. It takes them a while to figure out one another, but having done that, they realize that both cannot play the same game in the same town. This results in a wager, with the loser being required to bow out. The rest of the movie is just out-and-out hilarious. This is a movie that you just cannot NOT watch. If you haven't already, please see it today. You will not be disappointed.

Movie Review: Still the best Steve Martin comedy ever.
Summary: 5 Stars

Any movie in which Michael Caine, a doddering fart at the best of times, comes off as rip-roaringly funny without telling a single joke has got to be well-written. As such, this Michael Caine movie serves as an effective antidote to most other Michael Caine movies, with oddly little change in performance on his part.

As for Steve Martin, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is practically 20 years old and still stands the test of time as one of his most creative, dynamic, and hilarious roles. "Ruprecht" will have you peeing yourself with laughter.

By my recollection this was a sleeper of a movie when released, but that should only enhance what I hope will one day be the movie's cult status.

Movie Review: You Dirty Rotten Scoundrel!
Summary: 5 Stars

Steve Martin has done it again. Another hilarious movie! It's about these 2 con-men who scam women for their money. Freddy Benson is a crass, loud American. Laurence Jameson is a suave, urbane European. Their common ground is that they both are confidence men, and they meet in a train compartment as Benson is scamming his way across Europe, taking advantage of women's generosity. The two are forced into a rivalry, which culminates in a wager to see who can be the first to bilk $50,000 out of American heiress Janet Colgate. Then comes a twist ending that'll leave you cracking up for days. This is a must see for anyone who has good taste in movies. Buy it!

Movie Review: Best of both worlds
Summary: 5 Stars

"Best of both worlds" There's no other way to describe how hilarious, fun and brilliant are this couple acting together. Remember the chemical reaction between John Cleese and Kevin Kline hand in hand in a Fish Call Wanda? This is exactly the same kind of high comedy. You will laugh until tears in lot of scenes, maybe one of the best is the moment in which Caine inflicts punishment to Martin in his knees. Don't miss this film. The script is good, the rythm is perfect, the colour in the DVD edition is crispy and sharp. A ten over ten. My only objection is that there are no extra features besides the film. Buy it and enjoy over and over...!!!

Movie Review: They just don't make many comedies like this anymore
Summary: 5 Stars

Steve Martin and Michael Caine star as two con men in a bet in this fresh, exciting comedious adventure.

Steve Martin plays a number of roles within his roles, as he acts as the novice conman portraying different people. As can be expected, he is really good and unpredictable. Director Frank Oz (on the audio commentary) said that Martin had an important role in revising the script and ad libbing. Michael Caine plays the shrewd, sophisticated con man very well. Glenne Headly is also very talented, playing the object of the bet.

Well written, well directed, well acted. Highly reccomended. Wish there were more like it.
