Movie Reviews of Dirty Rotten ScoundrelsMovie Review: Priceless Match of Wits Summary: 5 Stars
The script is flawless and the roles played exquisitely by Michael Caine, Steve Martin and Glenne Headly.
Fred Benson (Steve Martin) has developed some expertise in swindling the small game - getting women basically to pay him a dinner. He is loud, uncultured and proud of his achievement. He has even managed to get publicity for his misdeeds in newspapers.
He realizes that he has much to learn when he steps on the territory, French Riviera, of Laurence Jamieson (Michael Caine), suave, cultured, classy European, who is elegantly getting the better of the big game.
In order to prevent Fred from scarying away his prey, Laurence devises a bet, a match of wits, between the two of them. The one who wins it gets to stay, the one who loses must leave. The bet consists of extracting $50,000 from unsuspecting victim - which they both choose and agree upon.
Now the priceless and hillarious match of wits begins, each one trying to outdo another and each one alternatively getting one step ahead, until the hunters realize that they have been hunted themselves all along by someone with even greater wits.
Movie Review: "Mother...Not Mother?" Summary: 5 Stars
Laurence Jameson (Caine) is a con-man, hustling rich corupt women out of thousands by lies and decept. Freddy Benson is also a con-man, hustling your average everyday woman out of a meal or two here and there...but when the two of them end up in the same place at the same time they realize they have competition, and when Freddy realizes how much Laurence really makes off these women, well, he wants just as much. The two decide to work together resulting in one of the funniest chain of events in movie history...whether Martin is playing Ruprecht (the monkey boy) or Officer Benson, the man crippled by memories of his fiance dancing naked with the host of Dance America, Martin is absolutly histarical. Caine has a dry humor that works well when bouced off of Martins charisma. I'm not a Caine fan but here he works well and casting can be forgiven since the script is tight and yes, Martin is brilliant. Highly recomended...this will make you laugh out loud and Ruprecht will make you laugh so hard you will cry!
Movie Review: Didn't Your Mother Teach you Not to..... Summary: 5 Stars
"Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" is a classic comedy, driven from beginning to end by the crafty characters created by Michael Caine and Steve Martin.
The storyline has been addressed extensively by other reviewers, but I will add that this film definitely breaks Mom's old rule: "don't make fun of the handicapped." Not only are Martin and Caine's characters both morally handicapped in the extreme, but Martin gets to play not one but two handicapped characters as he works his cons: one is in a wheelchair, and the other (Ruprecht)....well, I don't know exactly what Ruprecht's handicap is, but I can understand why he's kept locked up in his room.
Finally, this movie has a lovely look to it, allowing you to take a fantasy trip to the French Riviera, stay in the finest hotels and villas, and sip the best champagne - that's a step up from most movies these days right there. No explosions or violence. Amazing.
Movie Review: You can't con a con or con you? Summary: 5 Stars
Laurence Jamieson (Michael Caine) is a sophisticated confidence man that has be praying on the Riviera so long that he is even in the good graces of the local law enforcement. He crosses paths with an other "Dirty Rotten Scoundrel" Fred Benson (Steve Martin) who is more on the nickel and dime level. After a fails attempt to shake Fred off Laurence decides to shape him up. Thy have to compete against the unknown predator only known as the jackal.
Can Fred learn the finer points of relieving people of their monetary endowment?
Or will everyone fall prey to the jackal?
They could not have picked better people for the parts as the actors seem to have put a lot of their own personalities into the roles.

Movie Review: One of the best movies of all time! Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is awesome! I saw it as a kid and will never forget it. I've seen it many times since. Steve Martin (Freddie) and Michael Caine (Lawence) play con men who swindle money out of rich women. Steve is the younger, much less sophisticated crook who barely manages to con a dinner and 20$ out of a woman, while Michael Caine is the older, professional con man who cons woman out of millions. Lawrence is afraid the bumbling Freddie will 'scare big game' away from his hunting ground so he decides to get rid of Freddie all while pretending to be teaching him. Things get even funnier when the two make a bet to con an innocent beauty queen and they end up with some very unexpected results! I loved the acting in this, loved the humor and most of all loved the ending. Of all the sequals which should have been made, this is at the top of my list!
