Movie Reviews of Dinner Rush

Movie Review: Mangia!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Dinner Rush tells the story of one day in the life of a Tribeca eatery undergoing an identity crisis.

The owner (Danny Aiello) likes his classic and traditional Italian dishes. His son, a rising celebrity chef is into nouveau cuisine. He reminds his father in one scene "sausage and peppers is not on my menu".

In the course of the evening, there will be an offer made to Louis by two known gangsters they insist he cannot refuse, one of the city's top food critics makes an unannounced visit, the staff will have to deal with a melange of difficult customers, the chef will insist his father step down and sell him the business, the sous chef has made a perilous and ill advised bet with the aforesaid gangsters and is listening to his money go up in smoke on a transistor radio, and just why is John Corbett sitting at the bar and observing all of the goings on?

If you liked Big Night, you're absolutely going to love this movie. Very well done!!!!

Movie Review: 6 stars, and Who IS that guy?
Summary: 5 Stars

Throughout this marvelous movie, there's a guy sitting at the bar flirting with the babes, relaxed, checking out the scene, tipping the bartender - and the whole restaurant bedlam is going on behind him, and you keep wondering, Who IS that guy, and why's he in this movie? Then you find out...
Dinner Rush is quite a rush, a gourmet feast of Italian food in a TriBeCa restaurant owned by Danny Aiello. Except for a flashback at the beginning that sets up the mafia tie-in, the entire movie takes place during one evening at the busy hot spot. There's the rising star chef, the restaurant critic with a snarl on her incredible lips, the attempted takeover by mafia goons, a sassy artist waitress, the quintessential snotty art-dealer patron with the big mouth, the sous chef who's got a serious gambling problem and a serious debt to the bad guys... What's not to love?
And then, at last, you get to find out who `that guy' is...

Movie Review: Dessert & "just desserts"
Summary: 5 Stars

Danny Aiello, in superb form, heads a terrific and perfectly cast ensemble in this fast-paced drama of crime and punishment. You'll jump from food to furor as the exceptional editing takes you on a one night jaunt into the lives and longings of the vain and vulgar. The plot unfolds as a "Prix Fixe" menu with all the trimmings being served without disturbing the main course.
Director Bob Giraldi is flawless in his ability to present this potpourri with total viewer comprehension. Everything fits into place and the finale can rival Hitchcock any day of the week. Mark Margolis and Sandra Bernhard provide the comic relief with John Corbett so subtle as the lonely guy looking for friends.
A real feast.

Movie Review: The must see restaurant movie of the year!
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this movie for the first time on a trans-Atlantic flight. I thought it was such a great movie that I actually watched it twice in a row. Dinner Rush is a juxtaposition of hip yuppies and tough gangsters earning their way into the New York restaurant scene. The movie gives an excellent perspective of the chaos that is involved in one night's work at a trendy restaurant. The movie provides vivid and realistic characters and is accompanied with a wonderful score. I truly am excited that it finally came out on DVD so I can watch it at home with my girlfriend and show her what a great movie it is since trying to explain it really doesn't do it any justice.

Movie Review: Don't miss this indie gem
Summary: 5 Stars

As with one of the previous reviewers, I caught this movie on IFC the other night. I missed the first 10 minutes of the movie but once I tuned in for a few minutes, I couldn't turn the channel. Incredible acting and directing all around. The only beef I have is having the guy who blocked the stairs be so identifiable to the cop's wife. Didn't he have even a little bit of trouble with the cops before being able to drive away???
Inspired bit of casting having John Corbett play the ... I won't ruin it too much.
Strongest endorsement I can give is that as soon as it was over, I was looking online to buy this movie.
