Movie Reviews of Devdas (2 Disc Set)

Movie Review: great
Summary: 4 Stars

I love Bollywood movies and I think this is one of the best. I love Aishwarya Rai and Shahrukh Khan.

Movie Review: A grand picture painted on a big canvas with a palate of paint ...
Summary: 3 Stars

missing most of the colors. This film looks like it is deliberately shot with soft focus most of the time. Evidence is that foreground objects are usually, or sometimes, quite clear while every thing else is blurry. To make matters worse there is what looks like some kind of filter used that gives everything a yellowish golden hew while everything already seems to be that color anyway. There is almost a complete lack of color in most of this film. Perhaps this film should be decolorized to black and white. My opinion is that this kind of cinematography will not sell to consumers using the kind of home theater equipment available today.

Many of my favorite Indian actors are in this film and they really aren't given much they can work with. They do their very best, otherwise, I would give this film a 2. The mammoth sets completely overwhelm the actors and the soap opera like story. The drinking song is pretty good, I guess. I cannot believe people in India even liked this film. This is the only Indian film we have that we don't watch, at least parts of, over and over again.

In retrospect, without comparing the films, I think that Devdas is to India what Gone With the Wind is to the U.S. I did not like Gone With the Wind either.

Movie Review: Terrific Movie, spoiled by poor quality DVD
Summary: 3 Stars

After waiting almost 2 years for Devdas to be available on Netflix (it's been in my queue labeled "Long Wait" for all of that time) I finally broke down and decided to buy it. I have purchased quite a number of DVDs online from a variety of different sellers (including Amazon), but this is the first one I've received with such poor quality. It looks like it could be a 10th generation DVD (copy of copy of copy...etc), and this bad quality really prevented me from enjoying and appreciating the film the way I should have. All of the subtle nuances of color and detail are lost as the frames shift - it looks like 3 out of 10 frames have been removed. The movie itself is interesting enough to want to watch again, but I'd want to buy a better quality disc before I watched again. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to find one? I suspect there are issues I'm not aware of, which is probably why Netflix doesn't have enough (or any?) copies to rent. I think the movie would be spectacular if the quality was improved.

Movie Review: Awesome movie - Awful DVD
Summary: 3 Stars

Hard to get a good copy of this film. Despite it is an "original" version, it look like pirate and subtitles are so unaccurate. But it is better than nothing!

Movie Review: poor quality

I'm sorry to say I both the dvd because of all the collourfull cloth and settings ,but the quality is better on Youtube HD than the dvd itself.
