Other reviewers have brought up many vaild points- cheesy music, whispered encouragements and an intensity level not high enough for hard core pilates/yoga buffs. I agree. But Ms. Austen offers this DVD as an introduction to Pilates/Yoga and claims that with focus and dedication, results will be visible in about 3 weeks. I am very athletic, and found that after three weeks of daily practice (I use the second workout), my body tone had improved, my abs were flatter (as opposed to the "bunched" effect I get from my daily sit-ups) and my flexibility was greatly enhanced. I use the DVD as a daily stress release and stretch, then follow with a 3-5 mile run. The combinaton is great, and I am very happy with the improved body control. Is Ms. Austen perfect? No. Is this a DVD for advanced students? No. But does it provide a challenging, effective and enjoyable workout? Yes.
Movie Review: Re-ordering after 8 years of use! Summary: 5 Stars
Love this workout... when I first used it back in 2002, I had two months to get bathing suit ready. Used it 5-6 times a week, alternating workouts, coupled with the treadmill. I went from a 12 to a size 6! It literally changed the way my body was shaped. Flat stomach, i thought i'd never see after two c-sections! My hips went down completely and my butt was lifted. After years of not using due to personal health problems (lower back issues), I went to dust off my old VHS copy, it's broken so I'm re-ordering in DVD form. Can't wait!!! When I recommend it to friends I tell them, it's easy and it's not, you can get thru it, but boy will you be sore for a couple of days, luckily after about a week or two, the soreness goes away and after two weeks you will literally see a change. I just can't believe I waited sooo long to get back in shape. Thanks Denise.
Movie Review: Favorite Denise video, a MUST BUY!!! (RATE ME!!)and READ ME Summary: 5 Stars
I love this tape, I ordered it used and received it like a week ago and I am hooked to it I do it every day best of all, there are 2 20-min workouts the first one is fun and get's to the point, the second one is a real challenge but in time with practice you can do it, I'm a ballet dancer and I find that the second part is great for balance and concentration, she also moves quickly so you don't get bored, but she doesn't have a good cue and in sometimes does more reps. on ome side than on the other so even if she stops i keep going to get it right but that isn't the problem the thing is that you'll get a good workout and challenge yourself while doing this my favorite thing about it is NO EQUIPMENT REQUIRED so i recomend you buy it and have a good time with it ( time goes by quickly, non-boring guaranteed!!!)
Movie Review: Excellent! I LOVE this CD! Summary: 5 Stars
The first part of this CD is a great workout that I can do in 20 minutes, which is very important to me in the morning. I haven't tried the second part of the CD yet. I alternate this every other day with one of Denise Austin's other Pilates CD's - "Pilates For Every Body", also highly recommended. I especially like Denise's instruction...she's very much in tune with her body and health and it shows! I've read some mixed reviews about her personality, so I'd really like to add that I find her enthusiasm very genuine and inspiring! It's also encouraging that she's close to my own age (45) and is so physically fit. I think this is a super Pilates CD...I can feel results after only 3 sessions, and am much more aware of my posture during the day.
Movie Review: My favorite pilates dvd - hands down Summary: 5 Stars
I know, I know, there are those out there that just can't take Denise Austin. I am NOT one of those. I also bought Windsor Pilates and was not impressed with the monotone drill seargent-like instructor. Denise is encouraging in her special way. I love this dvd!! It is the one I always come back to for my pilates/yoga days. The workout is a great challenge for the beginner to intermediate. You WILL notice a difference in your core abdominal muscles within a few workouts. The dvd is comprised of two 20 minute routines. You can do just one or challenge yourself to both - I like that! I feel leaner and stronger; you will too. You should add this one to your fitness library; you will be glad you did.
