Movie Reviews of Denise Austin: Mat Workout Based on the Work of J.H. PilatesMovie Review: easy does it Summary: 5 Stars
I have a million work out videos that i'm constantly getting bored of and trading with my friends. I have had this tape for years and it is still my absolute favorite- I'll never get rid of it. I watched this VHS so many times that i wore it out and had to re-purcahse it on DVD!
This is a great tape to use if you've had a stressful day. The music is relaxing. The pace is comfortable (but never drags). The stretches feel SO GOOD. I use this tape as a warm-up before i go to the gym or to cool down after i come home all the time. Everything she does is thoroughly explained and several variations are shown for each pose depending on your skill level. The stretches are gentle enough that even my mom (who has severe back and knee problems) could do everything on the tape when i lent it to her. Plus, you don't need any equipment to do this tape. If you're looking for a fast-paced aerobic fat burning workout, this isn't it. But if you want to stretch out your muscles and detoxify and destress while increasing your flexibility and range of motion (without straining and hurting yourself) then look no further, this is the best tape you will ever buy.
Movie Review: Perfect Workout for A Busy Mom! Summary: 5 Stars
I used to have this workout on VHS and finally decided to look for it on DVD since I like it better than a lot of other ones I've tried.
Don't be fooled into thinking you aren't going to get results just because it is short. It is broken up perfectly into two 20 minute workouts which is just the right amount of time for a busy Mom who doesn't want to be deterred by something that requires more time than I have. You can alternate the workouts and do one a day, alternating them, or whatever works for you, and you will see results. It is a good mix of Pilates and Yoga, which I LOVE and it helps keep my interest.
For a busy Mom who doesn't have time to go to the gym and likes to workout from the comfort and ease of my own home, this has been my favorite workout for years. I even got my friend who was a busy lawyer with no kids hooked on it and we used to do the workout together at her house. Eventually, I moved and she liked the video so much she purchased one for herself and continued to workout to it on her own.
An excellent choice. I am extremely happy with it!!
Movie Review: Great !!! Summary: 5 Stars
I had never done pilates, or yoga before, and saw this tape. I've only done the tape once so far, but I am in love now with pilates/yoga. Denise does such a great job at describing things in this workout, and is very soothing in it. I got the best ab workout from just the 1st 20 minute session, even more than doing tons of sit ups or crunches. It really targets your abs through the whole workout, and the next day, my abs were sore in places they've never been. So were my upper thighs. I also liked the 2nd 20 minute session, becuase it has more of the yoga poses and stretches. It's great for beginners to pilates/yoga type moves. I could do all of the moves in the tape, some were a little hard, but it was my very first time. And after the workout, my posture felt improved, and I felt strong , confident, and very relaxed, as well as "worked out" all at the same time. I would recommend this tape highly. I have the VHS version and would like to buy the DVD. My VCR dosn't work too well!
Movie Review: Best 20 minute Pilates workout! Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned this DVD for a couple of years and alternate it with other workouts. It's by far my favorite one. I have severe muscle spasms in my back but I rarely have problems when I do this do this workout regularly. It's a very difficult workout at first if you are stiff but once you do it for a couple of weeks you'll really start to see the results. Just like any Yoga/Pilates workout, the results come only when you can hold the positions and flow to the next pose so you have to be focused.
This has 2 twenty-minute sessions plus an additional 10-minute hips, thighs and buns workout. I normally alternate the 20-minute programs and do the 10-minute bun workout at the end.
I have Denise's Power Yoga Plus tape and have to say this is a much better workout. The one big complaint I have is that she seems to stretch one side longer than the other on a couple of the poses but I've learned to compensate for it.
Movie Review: My favorite fitness video ever Summary: 5 Stars
I love this workout. I just bought my third copy- I started out with a VHS when it first came out and then upgraded to DVD when I bought my first DVD player in college. Somehow during my recent move my beloved Pilates DVD got lost so I had to go out and buy a 3rd copy. I have other videos I use, but this is by far my favorite.
Anytime I feel like I have been slacking off in the fitness department I make a point to use this DVD every day and can usually see and feel results in 2 weeks.
Additional equipment is not needed; I use a mat, but I have used it before without a mat. This is not an advanced Pilates workout so it is great for beginners. Even though I do some more advanced videos, I like to throw this one in rotation as well. I tend to suffer lower back pain at times, and I feel this video really helps with back pain more than any others I have tried. Highly recommended.
