Movie Review: Deahtrap a movie taken off a broadway play
Summary: 4 Stars

I haven't seen Deathtrap as a play out on broadway, or more of a professional theatre, but 2 years ago, the high school I went to, did this story as its fall play. And here is the film verison starring Michael Caine, the late Christopher Reeve, and Dyan Cannon as the playwright's frusted wife, and he might be frusted to. As the movie begins, it is openning night of Sidney Bruhl's (Michael Caine) new play, and the past plays including this one, turn up to be just another flop. But then he recieves a manuscript, and the only one to a play called "Deathtrap", from one of his former students Clifford Anderson (Christopher Reeve), and he returns home where he lives with his wife Myra Bruhl (Dyan Cannon), and he metnions the play to her, and she thinks that it woulde be a good idea for him to help Clifford Anderson on the play, but which he doesn't know at the time that he has the only manuscript of the play, it takes Myra some time to convice Sidney to call Clifford Anderson, but which he does agree to, and so the cat and mouse game would begin with the arrval of Clifford Anderson, this would be the movie for you if you like thrillers, or anybody in the cast.

Movie Review: For Armchair Detective Everywhere--
Summary: 4 Stars

---and even if you don't feel like "detecting," stick around and savor this tightly written romp of a comedy. "Deathtrap" is about as near as you can come to a Broadway play without being there.

Over the hill playwright, Sidney, (Michael Caine) is blocked. He is despondent over his last three miserable failures. His wealthy, clingy wife, Myra (Dyan Cannon) adores him and his plays. Enter fledgling author, Clifford (Christopher Reeves) who, it just so happens, has written a bullet-proof play and is flattered that successful Sidney is willing to look it over.

Michael Caine clearly has a glorious time playing stuffy, self-loving Sidney, and Christopher Reeve shows a guileful side not seen before. I'll take exception to other reviewers by saying Dyan Cannon cracked me up as the all-too-doting, somewhat sex starved wife. She also could give Jamie Lee Curtis a run for her title as the "Scream Queen." Ms. Cannon can rock the rafters!

Have a group of friends over and enjoy. Remember: don't give away the plot!

Movie Review: Deathtrap-What a plot!
Summary: 4 Stars

A well done adaptation of Ira Levin's Broadway hit. Michael Caine, Dyan Cannon and Cristopher Reeve deliver beautifully in this comedy that takes unexpected turns and surprising twists. Michael Caine is a playwright who has hit the wall with a series of Broadway flops. He has a plan and conspires with his wife, Dyna Cannon, to obtain a play from a former student, Christopher Reeve, a play that will save Caine's career.
Sounds boring? Anything but. From here the plot is full of laughs as it thickens.
The interaction between Caine and Reeve works wonderfully, their stage relationship a surprise. As always, Caine is superb and this was a great vehicle for Reeve to break away from his Superman role. "Deathtrap" is pure acting without the bells and whistles of today's computerized films.
I greatly enjoyed "Deathtrap" and encourage purchasing this DVD to add your collection. I highly recommend this title to teens and students as a cultural break from the currently popular but mindless films.

Movie Review: Drama, Comedy and classic Thriller all in one
Summary: 4 Stars

This film is a lost gem. It's not a well known film however if you take the time to view it, you will be impressed. Its classic who kills who and why mixed with twists that unless you have seen it before, you will not suspect what comes next. It is edge of your seat entertainment, Not a lot of blood and guts however it has tons of thrills. Caine's acting is up to it's usual high marks and Reeve is excellant as Caine's gay lover. I would have to say that Reeve pulls the roll off very well. The story is not a gay theme as you may expect, in fact the gay relationship is only one of many plot devices that weave the overall story.
The production quality is good and the film would be excellant for mixed crowds and enjoyed by all. If your looking for a gay theme movie this is a good film but not what I would consider a gay theme film. (...)

Movie Review: Quite excellent
Summary: 4 Stars

Ira Levin's comical mystery "who'll do it" is a joy from start to finish. Michael Caine is excellent as the mystery playwright who'd kill for a hit play. Christopher Reeve matches him all the way as the former student who's just written such a play. Dyan Cannon is amusing as Caine's overly hysterical wife.

While the plot has more twists and turns than you'd like to count, it's all energetically made and well acted and just when you think you've figured it out...guess again.

I'd like to recommend to future buyers to also purchase the wonderful play by Ira Levin. In fact, the only complaint I have with the film is that it didn't use the hilarious ending from the play.

Deathtrap may not be as good as Sleuth but you'll have a heck of a time with it nonetheless.
