Movie Review: DESIRE!!
Summary: 5 Stars
Like other Visconti films - this one is a visual treasure. It proves that Visconti is capable of adapting pretty much anything and making it his own.
Central to the film is Dirk Bogarde's performance - which is really stirring and unforgettable. We identify with his character because we all feel what he feels at times - desire, failure, reflection.
I am touched most of all by the scenes on the beach which also combine use of sound (like the man selling strawberries) in a hauntingly beautiful way.

Probably the greatest film of all time! Certainly one of the most stunningly beautiful, owing partly to the almost otherworldly music by Mahler. Certainly not a particularly 'homosexual' film, this film addresses all things under the cosmos. Former World War II army major Dirk Bogarde probably gives the finest performance of ANY actor in ANY film since the beginning of the technology. This may well be my favorite film of all time, and I am a huge fan of many films, those of Welles, Hitchcock, Bergman.Movie Review: Very sad but beautiful

Dirk Bogarde brought a sadness to his character that made me cry everytime he was on screen, especially when he went to the mens beauty shop, trying to look younger to attract the young boy he was infatuated with. Every shot in this movie looks like a painting. It was so beautiful and, dare I say it again, sad.Movie Review: Masterpiece....

Death in Venice is an absolute Masterpiece. Brilliant acting, awesome Mahler music, great Thomas Mann story, great photography. Every single shot is a true piece of art. Definitely a 'must see'! (And more than once...)

It is hard to believe that some fellow from Illinois or the Midwest in general may enjoy this Gift from Venus. So, please, go and rent some other piece of junk at Blockbuster, you all farm-minded ignorants.
