Movie Reviews of Death at a FuneralMovie Review: Best movie ever seen!! Never laughed so hard Summary: 5 Stars
This is the funniest movie I have ever seen!!! Why isn't it on DVD yet? It would make the perfect Christmas present for those who could use a good laugh. I don't buy movies often, but this one is an exception.
There are plenty of reviews that tell what this movie was about, but I don't think the message is clear enough. This movie made my husband and I laugh until our sides hurt and even after the credits rolled most of the people in the theatre just sat there, they didn't want to leave! I am confused by the world today where you enter a movie about fear, brutality and death (there are many examples) and the theatre is packed. But yet a movie like this only had a handful of people and isn't out on DVD yet.
Bottom line, see it when you get the chance!
Movie Review: Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this in the theatres, where it showed for just a very short while. I'm surprised that it didn't do better there, as the audience of ~50 people in the theatre all clearly enjoyed the movie. I was hoping it would come out on DVD by Christmas, but it did not. I put my order into Amazon to ship it when it came on DVD and had it three days later. The movie is, frankly, one of the most hilariously funny I've seen since the original Austin Powers. It's full of black humor and sight gags that just make you laugh out loud. -minor spoiler- I especially loved the first minute of the movie, where the oh-so-serious-undertakers bring the coffin in from the Daimler hearse in seemingly slow motion, and later leave in a hurry, spraying stones and kicking dust up as they leave in haste.
Movie Review: Excellent comedy of errors Summary: 5 Stars
A man with a large family has just died, so the whole brood gathers at his home for the funeral. Among them: A son who feels inferior to his talented brother, a niece whose boyfriend was accidentally given a hallucinogenic drug, a lovelorn suitor, a hypochondriac, and a dwarf who has some very special photos of the deceased.
This hysterical Britcom is everything you could hope for - a superbly witty script, naturally funny actors who play deadpan with ease, and a director who knows how to do funny. The large ensemble cast features Matthew Macfadyen and Kris Marshall and everyone is outstanding.
This look at craziness behind a funeral's proper façade kept me giggling from start to finish. Highly recommended.
Movie Review: Well worth it Summary: 5 Stars
Now, I haven't seen the American version but I can imagine that it pales in comparison. The acting, the timing, the well-crafted plot, it's hard to think of ways that this movie could have been better. I didn't laugh 'till I cried, but I don't really mind because that's always a bit uncomfortable when you start to have trouble breathing. However I did laugh (loudly) while watching it alone in my room, much to the disturbance of my roommate who was having a "grown up sleepover" at the time.
I've gotten side-tracked, but this is an absurdly funny movie and I'm determined to show it to everyone I know. You should too.
P.S. Alan Tudyk stole the show in this movie, and it's an absolute crime that he isn't more well known.
Movie Review: Over the Top Hilarious! Summary: 5 Stars
This was by far the funniest movie I've seen in years! I laughed so hard throughout that I was continually in tears - and it takes a lot to make me laugh! I watched it a second time and found myself laughing just as hard, and, by the third viewing (and I'm not one for watching the same movie over and over again)you'd think it wouldn't be that funny anymore, but I laughed just as hard watching it the third time with my husband. The situations are ridiculously funny and the performances right on. Matthew McFadyen's performance was layered and subtle and perfect as always - but then, everyone in this movie nailed it. What a gem! I'm recommending it to everyone I know.
