Movie Reviews of Death Becomes HerMovie Review: It Becomes Them Summary: 5 Stars
Plot summaries abound in the reviews currently listed, so 'nuff said about that....this is just to confirm, for those who haven't seen this modern-day should-be-classic, that it is well worth your time. The imaginative plot is enhanced by the terrific special effects, and the cast plays it to the hilt. Ms. Streep, fittingly, has been applauded by just about everyone on the planet and her work here justifies that. Sure, she can break your heart in "Sophie's Choice" and countless other films, but the woman is funny, too. Really funny. And well-matched with Goldie Hawn, whose own comedy chops are justly famous---they create a seamless, hysterical love-hate relationship. They're both beautiful (at least, part of the time) and it's easy to see why they want to hold onto their looks. Bruce Willis fans will hardly recognize him in his his role as the spineless Ernest. I'm not really what you'd call a fan, but darned if his comic timing doesn't keep him right up there with his costars. The three of them seem to be having a wonderful time in this romp, and the mood is infectious. Excellent job, Mr. Zemeckis. Give this a look, and you'll probably want to buy the DVD.
Movie Review: Dark, Clever, FUN Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie when I was about 10 and I have enjoyed it ever since! I enjoyed it because it was the first time I had seen a movie like that, and it wasn't my last! The way it looked and the mood of it made it quite funny, as if it were a guilty pleasure! The story unfolds interestingly, by people coming out of a play and saying that the lead sucked! Then we come to know that everyone hates her! Except for a plastic surgen. And we also find out that Madilon wants to stay youthful for the rest of her life! ANd so the stroy unflds and Madilon and Bruice Willis get married and Goldie Hawn holds a grudge and becomes over weight. And she has a dinner party for her new book, and invites Madilon and Bruice and she is beautiful and all that rot. SO Madiolon is all mystified and it is just a really good movie but the unique twist is that no matter what happens to them after they drink this potion, they can never get hurt! Very unique! I enjoyed it then and I enjoy it now. It still makes me laugh and I love that a movie I liked when I was 10 can still be funny! That shows signs of a good comedy!
Movie Review: Dark, cynical, weird, and hysterically funny Summary: 5 Stars
I found "Death Becomes Her" a dark, cynical and weird comedy of Machiavellian middle-aged actresses Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep) and Helen Sharp (Goldie Hawn) fighting over plastic surgeon, Dr. Ernest Menville (Bruce Willis), hysterically funny. If you only know Meryl Streep as a serious actress, you'll see she can do wacky, wisecracking, physical humor, and passive and physical aggression, as well as Goldie Hawn, who did an awesome job in this movie. Also, I found the serious Romulan-like character played by Isabella Rossellini to be the most amusing in the movie after Hawn's and Streep's.
I greatly enjoyed the acting, dialogue, and the increasingly wacky and unbelievable plot of this movie. In addition, the impressive special effects were used to advance the plot as opposed to showing them off for the sake of adding shock and awe. I think most viewers will either love this movie or hate it, and will know which category they're in about a half hour in. If you like dark cynical comedies, you won't want to miss this one.
Movie Review: Perfect Blend of Comedy and Morbidity Summary: 5 Stars
The enjoyableness of this product is kind of perverse, but unquestionable.
From the beginning, the premise seems ordinary enough. On one hand we have a beautiful, popular woman (Madeline) who is also a famous star, and on the other we have the rival woman (Helen) who is rather plain, and because of this has had all of her lovers "stolen" from Madeline.
However, when Madelin steals away Ernest, her fiance, and marries him, this is the final straw and Helen turns murderous and vengeful. The scary way in which she obsesses about Madeline is not even the movie's most wicked point.
An entire society of people who have regained their youth and never age is the underlying plot as both woman partake in this elixer of youth and gain much more than they bargained for.
Definitely worth the watch and the money amazon is offering for. A definite classic comedy.
Movie Review: DEVILISHLY FUN Summary: 5 Stars
Buoyed by pioneering special effects and make up, DEATH BECOMES HER is a sharp and witty treatise on vanity and growing old. Director Robert Zemeckis pulls out all the stops and gets delirously wonderful performances from his cast. Meryl Streep, the consummate actress of our time, is excellent as actress Madeline Ashton, who steals nerdish Bruce Willis from her long-time friend, delightfully embodied by Goldie Hawn. Both women, eager to stay young forever, visit the mysterious Isabella Rossellini (wonderfully campy) who gives them a potion for eternal youth. What happens then is pure fun as both Hawn and Streep find themselves "dead" and needing plastic surgeon Willis to keep their bodies together. Everyone involved seems to be having a good time and Streep is especially brilliant. A delightful dark comedy.
