Movie Reviews of Dean Martin: That's Amore

Movie Review: It shows Dino at his best
Summary: 5 Stars

have owned this DVD for three years and it is in regular rotation. It really stands up to repeated viewings.

I must confess that there are other male singers whose voices I prefer over Dean's. However, Dean's phrasing and delivery are unsurpassed. I am an amateur singer myself and Dean is is my idol. I will always strive to sing with the seemingly effortless nuance and emotion that Dean imbues his songs with. Combined with his innate charm and boyish sense of humor, Dino is truly one in a million.

About the songs, all are sung live on this DVD. Not a single one is lip-synched. Dean sings a broad repertoire and every song is a gem. It is why this DVD is in regular rotation in our house.

Extras: There are two marvelous duets in on this DVD: one with Petula Clark and another with the Great Peggy Lee. Both are extraordinary examples of the magic that can happen when two great singers work together.

I highly recommend this DVD. I've purchased copies for my parents and for friends and, as a reult, all are enthusiastic devotees of the late, great Dean Martin.

Movie Review: Wow, what a guy!
Summary: 5 Stars

For a long long time fan of Dean Martin, such a DVD is a dream. Songs, songs and songs, with a minimum of comments (and they are intelligent). Even Petula Clark gained talent near Dino.
Great voice, great attitude, Dean Martin makes you forget how much the Sixties were plastic: he was so naturally classy ... He worked hard but seemed to succeed in everything effortlessly, and the way he lives his songs here, - so gently - (especially the ballads) is so touching that it brings tears to your astonished eyes. Tears of happiness, and joy, since, as all the greats, he managed to mix danger, drama, melancholy and a strange sadness with what was maybe the best surprise in this guy: an incredible sense of humor.
Let's hope more projects as decent as this one will come soon. We want more of Dean, as we want more of some other great naturals such as Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Jerry lee Lewis... It's about time you fellow Americans pay honest tributes to your true heroes, not only singers, but also comic strips artists, writers, movie directors, actors.

Movie Review: Dean Martin - Don't Miss This Gem !
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been a Dino fan ever since my mum played 'Return to Me' on an old 78 rpm record. That song doesn't appear on this wonderful DVD but no matter, there is a bundle of marvellous performances here to warm the heart of any Dino fan culled from his outstanding tv shows of the '60's. What a treat to hear him perform so many great standards. Ballads such as I'm in the Mood for Love, Pennies From Heaven and You Made Me Love You, and swingers like LOVE,Where or When (thought to be his favourite song and here given a tremendous rendition) and a tongue in cheek Ol' Man River.Dean never took himself seriously but the art of making it look easy was never better demonstrated then in this compelling sequence of musical performances. Greg Garrison's gushing but intelligent between song comments are full of insight and he sums up Dean's craft beautifully - "...oh he was good, WAS he good". BUY THIS NOW AND YOU'LL WANT MORE !

Movie Review: 100 Proof Fun!
Summary: 5 Stars

This title is a wonderful collection of clips from the Dean Martin Show and from Dean's early television appearances. Dean Martin croons his way through such soft ballads as "Blue Moon", "Oh, Marie", and his signature song "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime." Dean Martin is captured in his true essence: in tuxedo, with a cigarette in hand on his set singing, dancing, and having more fun than anyone could ever imagine. Duets with Petula Clark and then with Peggy Lee show a warm side to Dean as he flirts with every note! The title stands on its own for capturing Dean Martin through 25 numbers, over an hour of laughter and entertainment. A must for all Dean Martin fans!

What a man, what a fantastic destinctive voice. No effort, it just rolls out. This is definitely one for everyones DVD collection. I regard Deano as one of the greatest professional singers of all time. This DVD gives a good insight as to how good he was. It is that good I ordered a second copy for my father who is 76yrs of age.
Currently I have 94 music DVD's and this one would have to be in the top 5 of my favourite Dvd's.
Buy this you will NOT be disappointed.
