Movie Reviews of Deadly FriendMovie Review: basketball + head = great moment in 80s horror Summary: 3 Stars
contrary to what wes craven says about it in interviews, DEADLY FRIEND is not his worst film and is not that bad a film, period. i have always enjoyed it and am surprised at how disturbing the story actually is. and the tacked-on ending is no dumber than the tacked-on ending of craven's original NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. bottom line, DEADLY FRIEND contains one of the coolest and most original kills i can remember from any 80s horror film: a character's head gets obliterated by a flying basketball! fans of this underrated gem will no doubt rejoice in being able to view that scene frame-by-frame now that it's on DVD.
Movie Review: Awesome Slasher With A Bad Delivery Summary: 3 Stars
This movie is low budget and most people who like this genre but do not have much imagination will probably not like it. I just saw it twice Friday night. It is awesome. It really deserves a remake with a bigger budget. Imagine an 80's slasher with a plot like no other. It takes the genre to another level but the acting and low budget quality take away a lot of points. It's kind of like My Soul To Take. That movie could have been great. I mean the plot was awesome. However the delivery just kind of sucks. Still definitely worth watching. Especially the basketball scene.
Movie Review: Enjoyible Story Summary: 3 Stars
Her father abused her, she came over with bloody nose, bumps and bruised her. Now she is getting a micro chip for a brain.
Movie Review: Aboslutely HORRID film. Summary: 1 Stars
I have waited to see this movie again for ages it seems. I had such a fond memory of it (especially with regards to basketballs!) from seeing it in the theaters back in the 80s.
I wish I still had those memories. This movie is absolutely embarrassingly bad. I see almost every horror movie made and love most of them (even the bad ones from the 80s) but this takes bad to an entirely new level. The acting honestly the worst I have ever seen in a mainstream horror movie. Kristy Swanson's character (because as an actress in better roles she is good) is so bad it's unbearable. The continuity is unheard of. The make up looks like it was done by a 2 year old and from scene to scene it changes in color and intensity. The robot is annoying and adds nothing to the story but a very lame arc.
I am all for bad movies that bring good memories to people but this one is a rare exception. It is one of, if not the worst, horror film made in the 80s.
Movie Review: The number one reason Wes Craven shouldn't be allowed to make movies. Summary: 1 Stars
This movie is a laughable piece of tripe. The story is ridiculous and to the best of my memory, the acting, effects and style of the movie over all are pretty horrendous.
When this popped up on my recommendations and I saw that they were actually releasing this film, I felt like I'd been slapped. So many better movies are languishing with no official DVD releases, but Deadly Friend gets one?
Surely, there is no justice in the universe.
On the plus side, it does feature the always fabulous Anne Ramsey.
