Movie Reviews of Dead RingerMovie Review: BETTE DAVIS CLASSIC!! Summary: 5 Stars
Bette Davis gives her all in this 2nd performance of playing the double role of being a twin! One pitifully poor and impoverished and the other ridiculously rich with astronomical wealth oozing from her pores! Her mansion of a house says it all! Feeling rejected and betrayed from years ago, of having her sister 'steal her man' and live the life she only dreamed of, and then finding there is murder, lies and deceit involved in the fabric of that lifestyle, Bette does a great job of pulling ofF the nuances of both characters in her twin roles! I watched with my daughters, so they could see what 'REAL MOVIES ARE MADE OF,' and how someone who actually has acting skills and experience portrays a character... with more than just good looks! If you're not a Bette Davis fan, this movie just may convert you!
Movie Review: Classic Bette Davis 1960's Drama/Thriller!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful Bette Davis drama/thriller with just a touch of camp. I love movies of this time period and genre. I am so glad to be able to add this to my DVD library.
The commentary track pushes this DVD rating from 4 stars to 5 stars, yet the film on it's own is worth the price. The two gentlemen giving the commentary give you loads of info about Bette Davis' life and career. You also will learn quite a bit about the other members of this talented cast and the making of this film. There are other extras that focus on the beautiful mansion where it was filmed. You will even see some behind the scene footage of the film being shot.
There was no other actress quite like Bette Davis and most likely never will be again. Get this DVD while you can!
Movie Review: "Margaret, this is Edith. I know EVERYTHING." Summary: 5 Stars
...and thus begins the murderous switcheroo fun in DEAD RINGER, my very favorite Bette Davis movie. When people imitate Davis today -- with the overarching mannerisms, punctuated by cigarette smoke and that emphatic, raspy voice -- it's the Bette Davis who sashays through DEAD RINGER. A first-rate cast and a few William Castle-like "shocker" moments (not terribly shocking, really) make this twist-filled psychological thriller a delectable romp not to be missed. Three cheers for Warner Home Video for bringing DEAD RINGER, in widescreen, to DVD!!
Movie Review: Davis at her campiest! Summary: 5 Stars
What's not to love about this film? Between the Charles Busch commentary (he does a spot-on Davis impersonation reciting the film's title) and Davis holding a gun to her doppelganger's head, one can't go wrong here!
Bette sure had everyone fooled except for Henry and Duke.
Best scene: When she grabs the hot poker and let's loose with the hugest shriek! I bet that is the exact yelp she let loose with when Crawford pushed her aside and accepted Anne Bancroft's Oscar over Bette's loss. Hilarious!
Movie Review: Check out the bonus commentarys and documentaries on this! Summary: 5 Stars
According to DVDReviews.com: Bonus material will include a commentary by Charles Busch (Die! Mommie, Die!) and Boze Hadleigh (author of Bette Davis Speaks and the two interview books, Hollywood Gays and Hollywood Lesbians), an all-new documentary Double Take: Bette vs. Bette, the featurette Behind-the-Scenes at the Doheny Mansion and a theatrical trailer. Sounds like great fun!And btw, Busch is also doing a commentary track with Patty McCormack on Warner's new release of THE BAD SEED!
