Movie Reviews of Dead Man WalkingMovie Review: Compelling & well done Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, must admit Penn and Sarandon aren't two of my favorite actors. For that matter, I can't imagine someone like Tim Robbins creating high art and social commentary. But this film has proven me wrong on all levels. Not only is Robbins script and direction sterling, but both Penn and Sarandon are flawless in their portrayals or a true story. Sharp, smart, and never once does this film pander. Great filmmaking all around.
Movie Review: Brilliant! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a brilliant masterpiece that showcases the talents of two fine performers(Penn and Sarandon). Film is based on true events that happened in Louisiana involving man on death row and the spiritual advisor who consults with him during his last few days on death row. Acting and writing are all top-notch in this one. There are good supporting players too including R. Lee Ermey(Full Metal Jacket-Gunnery Sgt. Hartman!)
Movie Review: A study on the death penalty Summary: 5 Stars
I believe that this movie is one of the most honest, graphic and thorough commentaries on the death penalty that I have ever seen or read about. I am an evangelical and disagree with much of the Roman Catholic theology but the love and compassion of God was seen in the character of Sister Prejean. I believe that the movie was well balanced in presenting both sides of the death penalty argument.
Movie Review: The Penn is Mightier than the Sword Summary: 5 Stars
"Dead Man Walking" is Sean Penn at his very best. He should have won an Oscar for his portrayal of convicted murderer, Matthew Poncelet. Susan Sarandon played Sister Prejean perfectly. This movie is sad, shocking, tragic and very informative. But, you don't have to be for or against the death penalty to find this picture riveting and thought-provoking.
Movie Review: Brilliant! Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, you're right definitely Sean Penn should've had an oscar to his name. 'Dead Man Walking' proves it. Susan Sarandon is simply brilliant, it just makes you cry at the end. The way she holds out her hand at the time of execution, the way she looks at Matthew (Penn), are all simply brilliant. she certainly deserved an Oscar.
