Movie Reviews of Dead Man Walking

Movie Review: BRILLIANT MOVIE
Summary: 5 Stars

You will NEVER forget this movie. As he proved in Mystic River, Sean Penn is an amazing actor and this movie wouldn't be the same without him. I think he should have gotten an Oscar for his performance in this.

Dead Man Walking is about a nun (Susan Surandon) who receives a letter from a man, Matthew Poncelet, (Sean Penn) on death row. He asks her to come visit him, and they get to know eachother. At first the nun tries to help him prove his innocence, but when that fails she turns to helping him accept Christ and prepairing him for his execution.

This film is so moving, it will bring tears to your eyes and will make you re-think your opinion of the death penalty. An absolute MUST SEE!!

Movie Review: Dead Man Walking
Summary: 5 Stars

Adapted from Sister Helen Prejean's non-fiction book by actor/director Tim Robbins, "Dead Man Walking" is an intense, harrowing account of one woman's dogged attempt to assure spiritual (if not earthly) redemption for a condemned killer. Penn is ideally cast as the convict, but Susan Sarandon's stripped-down performance as his spiritual guide is courageous, gut-wrenching work, fully meriting that year's Oscar. Unavoidably depressing, "Dead Man Walking" is also very real, shedding light into spaces we could easily ignore, but shouldn't.

Movie Review: "In Louisiana life means life!"
Summary: 5 Stars

Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon have distinguished themselves as two of the best actors of their generation. And in this movie, they both seemed to do it at the same time, in the same scenes. This film had the courage to explore issues within issues with guts. For example: Who grieves for the victimizers family? After this triumph why Tim Robbins doesn't direct more often is a mystery. Without a doubt Dead Man Walking is absolutely one of the best cinematic collaborations ever made. BRAVO!

Movie Review: Penn And Sarandon In A Classic
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a big fan of Shaun Penn- have been since "Fast Times", and here he gives the performance of his career as the titled "Dead Man". He is a death row inmate, at first shows no sign of remorse. He meets a Nun, played by Susan Sarandon, who I loved since "Bull Durham" (the BEST baseball film!) and she shows him that he has a conscience after all.
The film teaches a lot about the inhumanity of the Death Penalty and gives us two master performances. This is the best movie!

Movie Review: I LOVE a movie with a happy ending!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

*******SPOILER ALERT****

No, death-row movie cliches whatsoever!
No, last-minute, call-from-the-governor, stay of execution.
No, further time-wasting appeals.
No, he-was-wrongly-convicted, out-of-left-field, name-clearing, exonerating evidence popping up from under some rock.
Just a guilty-as-sin, lowlife SOB getting his more-than-well-deserved lethal injection.
God, I LOVE a movie with a happy ending!
