Movie Review: Bowie is the coolest human being alive...bar none!

This DVD is brilliant from start to finish! This DVD shows why David is truly the greatest, most influential musician that has ever walked the face of the planet! Sorry Elvis! When the lights shown down upon a previously invisible David Bowie during the opening number "Rebel Rebel," the crowd erupted in celebrated excitement. There was a sudden concurrent awareness that a living legend had made his presence in that same room. And on this particular evening, no matter how famous The Point happens to be, when Bowie hit the stage, the once intimidating venue was dwarfed by his karma, history and presence
Concerts by classic-rock powerhouses (true heritage/dinosaur acts) such as the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel and Elton John just can't match the feeling of a David Bowie concert.The cult-inspiring Bowie is the ultimate rock star, with a life and career that has included a supermodel wife, bisexuality, drugs, colorful costumes and ever-changing stage personas, and he offers an evening that's a true event. Other classic rockers tour routinely, which can dull the impact, but Bowie's latest trek is his first in eight years, giving it must-see status. This amazing DVD will show why he is the only one of the so-called classic rockstars that has remained vital, youthful and truly relevant.
Bowie's 2 1/2-hour show joyfully showcased what a vital live performer he remains. At the age of 57, he's still the coolest person in any room, full of cocksure English swagger.Sometimes fans just have to stare at a musician and wonder to themselves "How do they do it?"
It's hard even for musicians to explain where their inspiration comes from. At times it seems as much a mystery to them as it is to the rest of us.
Making the stage his weapon of choice, nobody aside from maybe Mick Jagger or the late Freddie Mercury could ever equal Bowie's stage presence. He defiantly prances, walks, struts and makes the entire elevated platform an instrument upon itself. The 57 year-old, ( still 56 at this show) not looking a day older than 40, still makes the most of his time under the lights, as if he's getting paid by the minute. Whether squatting to sing in the corner, receiving a bouquet of flowers, waving to star-struck fans, or marching and singing on a raised platform that would make most people woozy, Bowie let it be known that he is a star.
Bowie was, in a word, amazing. If there was a concert to catch these last five years, this was one of them. Bowie seldom tours, and at 57, it's not too likely that he'll embark on another world tour any time soon, if ever again.
Classy guy that he is, he doesn't parody his former self, nor does he try in vain to remain forever young, even though he looks it. He hasn't been pumping iron or doing strenuous amounts of yoga, like Sting. He doesn't rely on the same stage schtick that he used 40 years ago, like Mick Jagger. Bowie has settled into a dignified mantle as an English rock-gent who'll don black jeans, runners and T-shirts, but only if he gets to do something a tad outlandish, such as throw on a tattered morning coat over top. And then there was that bit of red fabric dangling around his neck, posing as an ascot.
The ever-smiling Bowie was in top form, his leonine voice more powerful than ever before (even in comparison to the recordings), and he delivered old hits with unabashed glee - songs that will forever hold up in the rock canon, such as Rebel Rebel, All the Young Dudes, The Man Who Sold the World, Under Pressure, Life on Mars,Ashes to Ashes, Heroes,Suffragette City and, as the grand finale, Ziggy Stardust. It's when hearing those hits, that one realizes what a true contribution this man has made to rock and roll and popular culture - present and past. Of course, the critical success of his latest Reality album is the impetus for this world tour, and the general belief that Bowie - who put the freak into rock 'n' roll - is back. The new material is absolutely fantastic and truly holds its own next to the old stuff. I personally like it as much as the 70's material. New Killer Star, Never get Old, Loneliest Guy and the beautiful/haunting Bring Me The Disco King at the encore is chilling and gorgeous!
Buy this DVD..buy it for everyone you know...this is the greatest music DVD of this century so far!
