Movie Reviews of Dark StarMovie Review: Some good ole 70's scifi fun Summary: 5 Stars
SciFi cult movie from the 70's. You're either onboard or not. I was onboard. The tacky sets, bad acting, overtly ridiculous or pointless plot flow here and there, the simplistic special effects, evidence of 70's tech dressed up to look futuristic; Loved it all! And a small kicker: one of the background songs is awfully similar to the Halloween theme song and this is a Carpenter flick. Guess he was warmin' up his composin' chops. Seriously, this is great late night fare. Keep your eyes open for the nod to "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes".
Movie Review: Excellent Sci-fi comedy Summary: 5 Stars
Whoduh thunk that Sergeant Pinback would oneday go on to help write and create one of the greatest sci-fi- franchises still going strong today - of course, I'm talking about the Alien franchise. Which pretty much comes from the same structure played out in this movie. An excellent low-budget "student film"...And John Carpenter helped a great deal too!
Still hilarious, still quoted and certainly still re-watchable! Well done boys.
Movie Review: Awesome movie Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is a classic. I first saw it as a student in college back in 1980 and it had a huge impact on me. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the ALIEN (the movie) connection.
Dan O'Bannon (who fights the Beach Ball creature) is in fact one of the authors of the movie ALIEN.
In fact the scenes in Dark Star of the character battling the monster in the airshaft/elevator are later reworked for Alien.
Movie Review: Sci-Fi comedy? Summary: 5 Stars
I guess it had to be done, and I had to have a copy in DVD as the VHS format is on its way out (changing formats again? Greedy entertainment providers will be the frustration of us all.). Story line limps, but the whole comedy aspect revolves around the "alien" beach ball being punctured and flying all over the place (a good "funny once"). Buy it, enjoy it a few times, then sell it to make space for better entertainment.
Movie Review: Dark Star Review Summary: 5 Stars
This film still made me laugh quite a bit, but it is something best watched while slightly intoxicated I think, at least it was for my friends. There is a fantastic elevator scene and the fact that it was made so long ago makes it a bit of a novelty for science fiction fans. I'd compare it only slightly to Killer Klowns from Outer Space or Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.
