Movie Review: serious yet also hilarious

i watched this movie without any expectations, but i came away loving it. jorge reminds me a lot of many youth today: those who want to do what they want, but can't because of numerous obligations and family. you can feel the pain and disappointment he goes through, yet he also matures and finds something (or should i say someone) that radically changes his life for the better. i obviously won't spoil the movie for you. the seriousness of jorge's situation is offset by the absolutely brilliant humor of raul arevalo, who plays jorge's friend israel, a.k.a the spanish sean penn. again, i won't say more than that. you'll find out for yourself if you take my recommendation and watch esta pelicula genial.
Summary of Dark Blue Almost Black
When his father suffers a debilitating stroke, Jorge is forced to put his life and career on hold. He takes over his father's janitorial position, cares for his father and studies at night. His life is further complicated by romantic entanglements with women. Meanwhile, Jorge's best friend Israel begins to question his sexuality and his family's integrity when he discovers that his father frequents a male masseur. Director Daniel Sánchez Arévalo's tender and witty debut examines the feeling of entrapment that arises when needs and desires are subjugated to family obligations.
