Movie Review: Dante's Peak - Great Volcano Movie
Summary: 5 Stars
To put it short and sweet, Dante's Peak is a pretty darn good movie about Volcanic activity. Sure it fudges the laws of physics a little here and there, but the special effects are phenomenal for the movie, nothing compares. Volcano, staring Tommy Lee Jones, also debuted the same year, but it really doesn't compare. Being a Geographer, and working toward Volcanology myself, this movie uses good terminology and for the most part is pretty realistic on what really happens in a Volcanic explosion, at least of Composite Volcanoes.
I give the movie 5 stars... the acting is excellent, the special effects great, and overall keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton star in this 1997 disater thriller about a dormant volcano that suddenly emerges.
Pierce is Harry Dalton, a volcanologist (a person that studies volcanos, not someone from Star Trek). He becomes concerned when he notices certain seismic activity in a beautiful northwest resort town of Dante's Peak. He travels to the town to investigate further. Pierce charms the mayor (Linda Hamilton)and tries to warn the people before she blows.
This disaster movie is full of adventure and thrills, typical of a Brosnan movie with the James Bond impact, it won't let you down! Buy it and enjoy...
Movie Review: An Eruption of great disaster fun!

I got this movie as a gift for the holidays about a year ago and as soon as I began to watch it I loved it. From the moment the movie starts to the time it ends, this film is packed with edge of your seat entertainment. The scene where the volcano first begins to erupt is overall my favorite part of the movie, although toward the end with the pyroclastic cloud ramming through the town of Dante's Peak is also a exciting time. The acting is great, the special effects are great, pretty much everything about the movie is great. Overall I give this film 5 stars based on acting, special effects, directing, and sound.Movie Review: Explosive but Fun

I really enjoyed this movie. Thought it might fall into the 'running from a catastrophe' type movie, but found it to be very family oriented fun with characters that were pretty defined.
I did enjoy the explosive volcanic scenes very much but also loved the way mom/mayor Rachel Wando (played so well by Linda Hamilton), tried so hard to protect her kids. This made the movie action packed but great family fun.
Pierce Brosnan & Linda Hamilton had good chemistry as well.

Movie Review: Great Film for Earth Science Classes
Summary: 5 Stars
I teach sixth grade Earth Science and show this film to my classes every year after completing the chapter on volcanoes. It is an excellent representation of volcanology. The director is a trained geologist and was meticulous with the information and the visual effects of volcanic eruptions. It also has an entertaining story line that keeps the students' attention (except for maybe during the few romantic scenes).
I have enjoyed it myself, even watching it so frequently...it's just a wonderful film.
