Movie Reviews of Dangerous Liaisons

Movie Review: Dangerous Liaisons
Summary: 5 Stars

Some reviewers spoke of the poor dvd quality. I was too young to see this film in the theaters when it came out, but is it possible that it could have been made to look like that? Sometimes a special filter is used on the camera to give the picture a specific look. I thought the haziness and soft, pastel colors presented in the movie mirrored the rococo style of the period perfectly.

This is my favorite John Malkovich movie. His looks are irrelevent to his portrayal of the Viccomte. Malkovich completely embodied the sinister and seductive Valmont, and every time I watch this film, I fall under his spell, too.

Movie Review: Excellent movie with visual splendor.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is by far one of the best films of deceit, honor and love. Glenn Close and John Malkovich are splendid as the villains we love to hate. However, almost ten years after its original release, Keanu Reeves still leaves me befuddled as a choice for the role of the young, handsome lover.

As far as production values, the whole design is magnificent eye candy, even if it is about 50 years earlier than the 1789 of which the story takes place. You will lose yourself in this elegent world of desire, deceit, death and debauchery. And when everyone gets theirs in the end, oh, how we wish it never had to end!

Movie Review: Drama, conspiracy, lust and much more....
Summary: 5 Stars

A brilliant piece of film indeed. Even though it started in a slow pace, after a couple of minutes, I couldn't take my eyes off the characters and was easily drifted away along with the film. John Malkovich is excellent, his chemistry with Glenn Close and Michelle Pfeiffer both are amazingly wonderful. Glenn Close plays the evil lady in the a very precise manner while Pfeiffer gives a stunning performance as the married woman torn between shame and lust. A remarkable piece of cinema and sharp performances, acting and direction makes it worth a watch.

Movie Review: Dangerous Liasions
Summary: 5 Stars

Dangerous Liaisons I have seen this movie before and decided to buy it for my library. I like historic movies that have bite and this one has it. First of all, the actors are superb in the roles they play. Everyone romanticizes the 17th, early 18th century. An era of fancy dressed men and pompadour women of the elite class. The ideaology of the time, the mind-set, and philosphy of those times is starkly portrayed. Not so romantic in the reality of false and rediculous etiquette and values.

Movie Review: Fabulous

From an earlier review...

"Great Potential Ruined By Mediocre Actors"

Oh, now THIS is rich...

THREE Oscar-nominated performances, and one of those is an example of "mediocre" acting? Gimme a break.

This is without doubt a fine film... Wicked, delightful, and delicious even for this guy's guy (forget that "chick flick" nonsense, any man who doesn't wish to take Malkovich's place in "educating" a very young Ms. Thurman is delusional). Five stars, a modern classic.

Superb cinematography, acting, costumes, dialogue, etc. Highly recommended.
