Movie Review: GET IT - The quality of the musician outshines the production

If I could only turn back time, I would have gone to see Dan perform live when I had the chance, rather than pass it up because there was no one to accompany me. So this DVD is a pale substitute for a golden opportunity gone forever. But thank goodness we have it.
I hope others do not let the (admittedly poor) video quality dissuade them from grabbing this treasure. The sound quality is fine, and there are wonderful moments of musicianship on every song....in particular, the fantastic bluesy "Road Beneath My Wheels". It makes me crave a whole album of Dan, unplugged, serving up Delta blues.
At first glance, I too was pining for more of Dan's hidden treasure masterpieces. But throughout the course of the DVD I gained a true appreciation for the overplayed radio hits by seeing them through his eyes and understanding his creative motivation. From now on, "Leader of the Band" will bring a tear. Only "Lonely in Love" still left me lukewarm when I know the artistry he can create.
Bottom line, you will come away from watching this with a bittersweet pang in your heart, but feeling that you have gotten to really know a man with a beautiful spirit, and a rare gift of creating some of the most poetic music I have ever enjoyed.
