Movie Reviews of Damn YankeesMovie Review: Good Old Days on Broadway Summary: 4 Stars
Released just in time for a match up with its original title ("The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant"), and slightly ahead of D.C. baseball's return, not much has faded with the years, certainly not the choreography. The dances have a swaggering, self-reflective mockery, especially the quintessential Fosse number, "Who's Got the Pain?" Gwen Verdon and Ray Walston were admirably just as remembered. Tab Hunter wasn't as bad as I'd recollected. In fact, he may have been just right as the guileless Bimbo Jock, dropped by forces he doesn't understand into a milieu of theatrics he's never conceived of and with which he hasn't the slightest notion how to cope. Except for the big production of "Two Lost Souls", where his totally danceless chair dragging stretches far-too-far beyond reasonable suspension of disbelief, his befuddlement at what's going on around him is almost perfect.
Movie Review: Good Vintage Video Summary: 4 Stars
The audio/video quality of the original movie is not quite up to modern picture and sound standards, and the original play and movie we indelibly tied to the 50's scene ("Cool, man"), but the transition to DVD has not hurt it a bit. The songs and dancing are very stylized, definitely reflecting Donen's handicraft. Seeing the actors when they were almost kids is very interesting. I definitely enjoyed it.
Movie Review: DAMN YANKEES! Summary: 4 Stars
Awsome. But what the heck. The devil looked like crap. I saw it on stage in Louisville, Kentucky. It was ten times better. ESP!! THE DEVIL! But it was still a excellent movie without the devil. If you like this movie also watch Phantom of the Opera, Cats, RENT, Evita, and Joseph and t he Amazing Techinolor Dream Coat.
Movie Review: Damn Yankees Summary: 4 Stars
i remeber, seeing this movie baasically, when it was first released. and as I have a large collection of musicals, I wanted to add it to my collection, as i had not seen it available in Australia. After viewing Damn Yankees after 40 50 years, was very enjoyable, Gwen Verdon great, and Tab Hunter, yes!
