Movie Reviews of Cult Camp Classics 1: Sci-Fi Thrillers (Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman 1958 / Giant Behemoth / Queen of Outer Space)

Movie Review: Three for the collection.
Summary: 5 Stars

Yea, I've got these also.

First of all, all three movies are clearly shot, and sharp focus. (I haven't see the Giant Behemoth yet) but can vouch for Attack of the 50 Foot Woman and Queen of Space as well as their microphone placement--the sound is just fine. Of course I look all those old movies so you'll have to expect my rates to be a little higher than some.

PROS:

1. Attack of the 50ft Woman; Shot in that clear black and white of the old days that many of us like. Clear sound. Acting is so-so ok, that's a star.
2. Writing is ok, that's a star.
3. Directing is ok, that's a star.
4. Special Effects are the usual over-lays they used back then because modeling was just too costly and some of these production companies still didn't have their 'force scaling' down just right. (Example; when the WOMAN approaches the bar you'll notice this thirty foot tall structure is larger than her fifty foot stature.)...but so what. Their special effects rate a star with me.
5. The idea is fine and makes a kind of sense. You take this spaceman from another world, he starts searching Earth from a polar orbit until he can find the right fuel for his ship--no gas stations up there yea know. Diamonds--that's fuel. This rich girl on Earth, in our mid west of the United States has a big one. Hence the story begins when he lands right infront of her speeding car. 'Well,' you say, what about that 50ft woman part?' And, of course, I have to put on a college hat and reply, 'Children, children, children...listen to the old techno hobbiest and learn the error of your' ways...' I walk up to the chalkboard with a wooden pointer in my right hand and point at some biological (stick people) drawings there,(one shows a tall man with the grated measurements of 30 feet drawn beside him, the other is a tiny like female with the same measuring stick line that shows only a little above 5 feet. A question mark is above the man's head. 'You're the space man.' I look at them, and they look back at me and then to the drawings. 'You've been in space for a looooonnnnng time!' The class clown's eyebrowl raises a quarter inch, then they both suddenly pop open and a red-faced grin washes over his cheeks...one of the girls tetters. 'Now class, listen, you've been flying all over the galaxy--alone. You've been flying so long your ship is running low of carbon fuel.' I glance back at them, one of my prized grins showing. 'What's the next thing you're looking for?'
The class clown, 'Women! I'm glad he answered...I was beginning to wonder if he'd ever graduate!
'Exactly!' pointing my pointer at him with an approving grin and much called for wink. Then, pointer going back the chalkboard, 'but there's a problem.' an almost bewildering look on my face as I point from the thirty foot man to the five foot woman and looking from the board to you all.
'He's too big!' That was the quick-one answering and of course several of the ... more worldly girls are tettering, some of the others appear bewildered for a moment before the two groups exchange some whispers I'm not supposed to hear.
Me, "Hmmmp," (the required disapproving sound from me to those girls), 'Correct!' my voice rising, 'So what's he going to do?'
The class clown jumps up while raising his right arm and hand--making sure nobody beats him to the answer, 'Find a thirty foot woman!' He just had to shout it, now everybody knows he's slow.
'No lame-o! This is Science Fiction One Zero One!' voice rising to thunder. 'You don't find a thirty foot woman on a planet full of five and six footers!" I palm-strike my forehead.
'Eh...make one?' that was the quick one again.
'YES!' a sudden sour look on the side of my face toward the quick one. 'I was beginning to wonder about you quickie.' addressing the rest of the class. 'Yes, in science fiction you must make one and since you've only got one, instead of two, to choose from...' approaching the class quickly but very quietly as if to whisper, 'what do you do...' nobody answered...'you've only got one shot at it...everybody in the galaxy knows if you grab a cutie on planet Earth THEY call out the Army with big guns and throw hand grenades at you!...' eyes growing larger as if suffocating.
One of the girls, who was just a little challenged around the torso area, almost a whisper, 'Bigger is better.' I think she was alittle embarest.
I yell, 'YES!' arms spread wide, face grinning up to heaven, The girl suddenly jumps up, arms crossed...I think we're talking about two different things.
'What makes you think he wants her!' she almost demands.
'Because, beautiful,' a slight grin there, 'he picks her up' and I pretend to pick up an nonexistant doll and,'and carries her back' and I pretend to carry the doll back to my desk, voice lowering gently, 'to her house where she would be safe.'
The rest of the girls go 'Aaahh.' with wishful thinking.

And that's the end of my class on why you should watch this movie and all those older clean movies. Five stars all around, no con, pass the popcorn. Bye! Oh yes, Queen of Outer Space has a ton of cuties.
