Movie Reviews of CujoMovie Review: Cujo Summary: 5 Stars
Donna Trenton is a frustrated suburban housewife whose life is a turmoil after her husband learns about her having an affair. Brett Camber is a young boy whose only companion is a Saint-Bernard named "Cujo", who in turn is bitten by a rabid bat. Whilst Vic, Donna's husband is away on business, and thinking over his marital troubles, Donna and her 5-year-old son Tad take her Pinto to Brett Cambers' dad's car shop, the car fails, and "Cujo" is very, very sick. What is great about Cujo is how it shows the dog coming unravelled. We see the transformation from lovable family dog, to vicious killing machine that has an insatiable need for blood. It is understood that Cujo has to have a happy hollywood ending, and that is fine, but the book tells a much more clear yet paradoxically involved tale of a boy, his dog, and how sin is never really forgiven. Cujo is a great movie. It is scary and has a point. It does a good job of bringing King's vision to life. A movie that tells you that your demons will come back to haunt you.
Movie Review: Dee Wallace is great. Summary: 5 Stars
Cujo (1983) was definately a triumph. The story of a rabies-infected dog is gripping. It was sad that Cujo became vicious as he was such a loveable dog transformed by something out of his control. Te characters are very human. Dee Wallace plays Donna, the woman trapped in her car by Cujo. She gives an amazing performance as a woman fighting to survuve and get her son Tad (Danny Pintauro) to safety. Pintauro is believable as a boy who is frightened out of his mind and soon is stricken by heat exhaustion and hunger/thirst. Daniel Hugh Kelly is great as Vic, Donna's husband, who is called away when his ad line for a cereal brand is taken off the shelves after a health scare. The subplot of Donna having an affair makes the characters seem even more like real people. The last half hour is white-knuckle intense. The director adds some unique camera angles and builds the characters and suspense. Plus the ending is more upbeat than the novel, which works better for the movie. Cujo is a great film.
Movie Review: A Treasure for Horror Fans Summary: 5 Stars
"Cujo" is, simply put, an unnerving, terrifying film from beginning to end, and stands the test of time as one of the best Stephen King adaptions. Exceptional directing from Lewis teague ("Alligator") and acting make all the difference. It's a shame so many viewers considered the first half a "bore"...hasn't anyone heard of a "build up"? The movie deliberately takes its time to allow the events to unfold relentlessly to a shocking climax; the same holds true for "Carrie." Even more unsettling is the fact that the "villian" retains viewer sympathy since he remained a victim of circumstance. Even King himself as remarked "Cujo" was among his favorite adaptions, and it's easy to see why: this film is a hair-raising nail-biter and does what any exceptional horror film can do: it shocks, scares, and makes one think long after the end credits have rolled. Highly recommended.
Movie Review: Dog Training in this movie is astounding! Summary: 5 Stars
On the Website http://www.horrorking.com/movies1.html it states under the movie Cujo that "Five Saint Bernards were used, one mechanical head and a guy in a dog costume. To make the St Bernards attack the car, animal trainers put the dogs favorite toys inside the car so the dogs would try to get them!"That is amazing!Personally I detest all dogs other than poodles, maltese, shelties and sighthounds so I found the movie funny to say the least!I just wanted to go into the movie and cut the St Bernard in half with a chainsaw and end it that way.Big Dogs are so seemingly nice. This portrayl showed the true viciousness that lurks in every crappy useless cumbersome stupid ugly big dog whether or not it has rabies.
Movie Review: A killer Kanine movie Summary: 5 Stars
Cujo was a great "horror" movie that seems to never lose its touch, much like other 80's horror films. It starts of as Cujo, the furry, lovable St. Bernard chases a rabbit down a hole and then there he gets bit by a rabid bat. But from then on, you just want to fast foward it to the good parts where Cujo starts killin', much like the book went when you might've scanned it, looking for the best parts. The movie wasn't lame, just a little moving as if you actually feel pity for that killer dog. And the DVD features no trailer. Of course when it was out on the big screens, no one wanted to think that Cujo was a dog. Its a great movie, serously. Just check it out and see for yourself.
