Movie Reviews of CujoMovie Review: man o man... Summary: 5 Stars
I have seen this film quite a few times and have come to the conclusion that it is one of my favourtie horror films. It is gritty, raw and claustraphobic. A far more primal, gutteral Panic Room. All of the acting is convincing, especially Wallace Stone and the child. I also have never seen a child actor look quite as scared as this one does; to the extent that it makes me uncomfortable, its almost expolitative... i really feel that child was convinced that dog was going to eat him. It is slow building, which is such a releif after a decade of post Scream imitations that insist in shocking me into numbness within the first five minutes. The score is also well suited and Jan De Bont's cinematography is excellent; as what could have come across as fake and or cheesy, actually comes off as utterly convincing and really, really, really scary. Another thing that works well, is the use of colour. The yellows and browns that fill the movie make me feel like i'm there- sweating away inside that car and when the attacks are happening, i feel like the dirty quality of the image is the feel of Cujo's fur brushing against my skin. Scary.
Essentially, it's a simple story- but a really good one. And unlike many Stephen King adaptations which deviate from the novel, the major changes are justified when you look at the film as it is. Had they wanted to make the film an extra half an hour longer, then perhaps Tad could have died... that's the only way it could have been done, in keeping with the pace of what preceeded. A wise, intelligent move. I wish there were more horror films like this. It really feels to me, like the Texas Chainsaw of monster flicks.
Movie Review: You'll never look at dogs the same again. Summary: 5 Stars
...Featuring a rabid St. Benard who turns into a vicious killing machine who traps a wife and child in a broken down car in the middle of nowhere, Cujo takes suspense to a whole new level.Sure, the first half of the film is pretty paint by numbers stuff that features no horror and gore whasoever, but that was so you can get acquainted with the characters.... Cujo is technically an innocent victim of an evil disease, you can see that King didn't want this to be the typical "evil dog vs. caring owners" storyline... but basically ir comes down to a dog named Cujo getting bitten by a rabid bat. He then goes on a killing spree. Tad Trenton and his mom go to a farm to get their car fixed. Too bad when they get there, the people who were supposed to fix the car get killed by the dog. Then, the car breaks down, and all hell breaks loose. The problems with the movie are few, but deadlier than the vicious streak of Cujo. The movie is too boring early on, and the ending sucks a big one. Plus, the DVD features no extras whatsoever, just improved sound quality and scene selection. The visuals are the same as they were in the 80's, so dont expect anything too great. This is not a revolutionary film by any means, but Cujo delivers what King wanted it to: a tale of evil vs. good, but with shades of gray. And Cujo just looks too cool to be ignored for long. I reccommend seeing this movie without a doubt. It is one of my favorite horror movies of all time.

Movie Review: A great film that's quite hard to watch. Summary: 5 Stars
This film can be quite disturbing and hard to watch. If you do not like seeing very young 5-year old children suffering and crying their eyes out and screaming you may not like this. Ok, so most of the film at the beginning drags a bit, but it introduces you to the characters and it deeps down into their lives. But once Cujo kills his first victim the real scary stuff begins to happen. The film is about a dog named "Cujo", who gets bitten by a rabid bat while he is chasing a rabbit. We then move to a family: mom (Donna), dad (Vic) and their son (Tad) and we look at their lifestyles and problems. We then go back to Cujo, who is beginning to get very dirty and hiding in many places away from his owner in their farm. Cujo soon transforms into the monster he becomes after the rabid bite and kills the owner. Then, Donna and Tad are driving along the road, when their car suddenly stops in the middle of Cujo's far. No one is in sight, until Cujo suddenly appears. Donna and Tad are forced to stay in the car, so Cujo can't kill them. Whenever Cujo tries to attack the car it can be quite disturbing and frightening. There are also lots of jumpy moments and un-predictable ones. I would only watch this if you are a hardcore horror movie fan, or a Stephen King fan. But there are some really shocking scenes which could be too much for others.
Movie Review: I never knew... Summary: 5 Stars
A dog could be so scary. I love dogs and have never once met one I was scared of, but after seeing this film I have my reservations. Taking a St. Bernard, a loyal and jovial dog and making it the prime baddy in this film was pure genius. I feel that it was that fact that makes the film all the more terrifying. If the dog had been a mere Pit Bull, something that many view as mean, it wouldn't have been so terrifying, but taking a dog that many view as a sweet and lovable animal made all the difference. The film is about a dog that's biten by a rabid bat and goes pretty much insane. I've never seen a rabid animal like this. Most rabid animals are scared of humans and only attack after being provoked, wereas Cujo went out to stalk his prey. A woman and her son are his latest targets and the center of this film revolves around these two stuck in their brokedown station wagon as Cujo tries to break in for a few days. The acting is pretty good, and even though the boy was somewhat annoying, he was convincing in his terror. The dog was the star though, I still have no clue how they got that dog to do all that crap. Very smart dog. Anyways, it's not the scariest thing you'll ever see but it will chill a few bones.
