Movie Reviews of Crunch - Candlelight Yoga

Movie Review: My absolute favorite yoga
Summary: 5 Stars

This yoga workout is perfect for de-stressing and relaxing at the end of the day. Since it is a gentle practice, it is appropriate for even beginners. However, there is not a great deal of time devoted to instruction in between poses; each pose flows into the other. So if you have never done yoga before, you may want to watch it all the way through before attempting to do it, or try a more instructionally focused DVD to begin with.

From the picture on the cover and the title, I figured the set would be softly lit for this practice. Not so. It was brightly lit and airy, but candles were everywhere. Although it was not what I expected, the set was still nice to look at. There are several stretches that are done with eyes closed or facing the ground, though, so you won't be looking at the set all that much.

The music is gorgeous, new agey with nature sounds such as birds chirping and flowing water. This helps to set the tranquil mood.

The poses consist of stretches, nothing too strenuous. Some include the cat stretch, forward bends, and a brief vinyasa (movement flowing with breath). At the end of the workout, I felt amazingly relaxed and healthy.

Movie Review: Excellent for Beginner- Relaxing and Refreshing
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great yoga DVD for the absolute beginner. This routine is a great introduction to yoga, if you never have tried it before. In this DVD, Sara Ivanhoe moves you gently through each position with clear instruction on body movement and breath (the foundation of yoga practice). The atmosphere and music is peaceful and pleasant, but not distracting. There is also an option on the DVD that allows you to have Sara instruct without the background music so you can use your own music.
As an absolute beginner, I tried the Rodney Yee and Yoga Journal's DVD's when I first started and I was overwhelmed. The quick shifts from pose to pose were frustrating and intimidating as a beginner. Sara Ivanhoe's instruction is paced so you can actually get into the pose and stretch through it. Even if you cannot touch your toes at first, you will be able to recieve the benefits from yoga in this DVD. If you have never had a yoga class, and are new to yoga, this is a good DVD to try.

Movie Review: Candelight is delightful.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am aquiring my own library of yogo videos, after practicing for about a year. I attend classes, and supplement with videos. Candlelight Yoga is one that I keep coming back to! I love it before bed; there is some activity, but not too much to be able to sleep shortly after practicing. (I also have used it at other times of the day.) I love Sara Ivanhoe's more lighthearted, refreshing approach to yoga. I like a good workout, and do take my yoga practice seriously. But Sara is so pleasant, has a soothing, but still engaging, voice and way of delivery. Sbe makes it seem that this is fun, and by the way, does good things for yourself at the same time. I would recommend this to anyone. In response another reviewer, I am about to turn 50, am not particularly athletic, and have back problems to boot. This yoga session has only left me feeling relaxed, comfortable, and very happy that I took the time to practice with Sara and Co.

Movie Review: Relaxing excercise?! It's true!
Summary: 5 Stars

This DVD was my introduction to yoga. The reviews and description made it sound so relaxing. Since I'm getting back into working out after a long hiatus I figured this might be a good start for me since my loss of time working my muscles has caused them to become weak and inflexible.

I guess I made a good choice. Again, since I've had no previous experience with yoga I have nothing to compare this to. This DVD was not too strenuous. As a beginner there were a few moves I found a bit difficult to hold, but the instructor is great about constantly reminding you to not overdo it and has one person showing frequent modifications.

I did find it to be rather relaxing. I was either so relaxed or worn out afterward that I was certainly ready for bed!

I do recommend as a relaxing yoga workout or as a cool down after a strenuous activity. I also think it's perfect for beginners!

Movie Review: Relaxation at its best
Summary: 5 Stars

I have recently purchased several yoga DVDs, but Sara Ivanhoe remains my favorite instructor. Her voice is soothing, and she stresses working to your own level rather than what the other people on the DVD are doing. She always includes modifications for less flexible people which she explains at the beginning of each move rather than the end (like many other yoga instructors do).

I've owned other yoga DVDs where the instructor bounces quickly from move to move, and as a person with knee problems, it's difficult for me to ever catch up. This DVD is all about relaxation and breathing. Each pose is held long enough to stop worrying about getting into the next pose and instead focus on feeling relaxed and at peace.

The highest praise I can give this DVD is that it is honestly my favorite thing I ever do for myself, and it leaves me feeling better and more relaxed than if I took a nap.
