Movie Reviews of CrossworldsMovie Review: Ham and Cheese with Rye Summary: 3 Stars
This was obviously a pilot for a proposed TV series that never made it out of the cutting room. Josh Charles plays a heroic nerd whose special power seems to be being able to take a punch in the face and bounce right back. Andrea Roth is the cheesecake who motivates Josh's character to go from zero to hero in 90 minutes and Rutger Hauer is a cross between Obiwon Kenobi and Han Solo with a touch of Mad Max thrown in for style.
The company that made "She-Ra, Princess of Power" should probably have sued for copyright infringement (and that may be why nothing ever came out of this pproject) because there are strong similarities between the two stories. Princess Adora - er, Andrea Roth plays a mighty female warrior from a parallel dimension conquered long ago by mystical Warlords. One of those Warlords wants to invade Earth's dimension but for some strange reason - even though he and his henchmen bounce back and forth freely between the two worlds - needs a mystical staff and gem hidden in our world to bring his army through.
The Final Battle between Charles and the Warlord seems to be stolen from the ending of Waxworks II, which was done much better in my humble opinion. Still, there's worse dreck out there and Hauer is a pleasure to watch so I'm giving it 3 stars for trying.
Movie Review: CROSSWORLDS PUZZLES Summary: 3 Stars
...but for a movie of low budget, it's an entertaining evening. Wisely not attempting to do a lot of cheesey effects, director Rao instead chooses the standard ones, and they are effective, especially the oft-mentioned elevator sequence.
The storyline gets muddled, and Stuart Wilson's hamminess as the villain sort of overdoes it, but Josh Charles as the hero is appropriately boyishly enchanting, and Rutger Hauer plays Rutger Hauer again, but he does it so well, who cares?
Not the best sci fi movie on film, but it is certainly better than many.
Movie Review: Nice little mind teaser Summary: 3 Stars
This low budget movie isnt the greatest thing you'll ever see but it was quite intriguing as a story and well executed. The actors are all well cast and its a pity it didnt have the budget to make it more complete and visible -or to use it as the start of a series as mentioned elsewhere. If you like interesting stories, or sci-f, this is one that can stretch your mind a bit for the evening. It's good to see different dimensions, rather than different planets and worlds, used for exploration. Pleased I bought it.
Movie Review: Confusing Movie Summary: 3 Stars
I watched this and was lost quickly. Very little made any sense. i found Rutger Hauer's character abrasive and while the movie moves quickly, it seems to be somewhat erratic. Take a kid who has no idea what is going on, shove him in a fight and then expect him to succeed? Can you say trial by fire?
The basic storyline is sound, but needed additional fleshing out so that the story flows better and gives some continuity to the action.
Movie Review: Brings home the bacon Summary: 3 Stars
For a B-movie, this was not bad over all. The story was engaging and not total hollywood shlok. While it was no Star trek or 5th element, it was one of the better low buget sci-fi movies. This was more of a B+ movie then just a B-movie. A little bigger buget and maybe this could have gone some where...who knows. Over all I think this is a fun film, and you should give it a try.
