Movie Reviews of CrossroadsMovie Review: Probably Macchio's Best Film Summary: 5 Stars
The film has a great storyline that progresses very nicely. The guitar playing is fantastic, as is the harmonica. The film makes no attempt to glorify the life of a musician and doesn't get caught up in the racial conflicts that is the south. Instead, the film uses history to help progress the storyline without actually deterring from it. It has a nice southern atmospher to it and leaves one longing for the simpler days.
The ending is amazing. It is definitely my favorite part of the entire film and a part that I can re-watch over, and over, and over again.
I rented this video to review.
Movie Review: Crossroads Summary: 5 Stars
6 Sept 09 Sunday: I enjoyed the guitar playing very much!!!!!!. The plot is also interesting!!!. To sell your soul for wealth, power, & fame!!! It seems human nature will never change for the better as long as Old Lucificer beats his drum & we march to its beat!!!!!!.. I saw this on HBO afew years ago & the bargin price Amazon.com sold it for, I could not pass it up. I listen to jass on the Wave F.M. out of Los Angeles, CA. The Wave is just the very best for easy listing. Thank you Amazon for a great deal!!!!! Best/Wishes Charles in So. California...
Movie Review: A great movie for blues and rock guitarists Summary: 5 Stars
I worked as an extra in this movie. I was the bartender on the right side of the screen where Harry Carey Jr. fires a shotgun blast toward the ceiling in a crowded bar. The movie is very good and was more or less lost in the shuffle after the Karate Kid franchise ended. Ralph Macchio does a very good job of miming his finger synching to the guitar licks. This film has a story that stays interesting throughout. It should be acceptable for teens and older audiences. With the current interest in vintage music and cars this movie will find many new fans.
Movie Review: What you want is what you get Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw this movie before I even played the guitar. It is inspirational. Ralph Macchio does an excellent job of slipping out of his Karate Kid persona and slipping into the bright eyed overly confident wieny that most beginning artists tend to be. His pairing with Joe Seneca is perfect. The storyline and ending may be foreseeable,,, but the journey is fantastic. Most movies are predictable. The boy gets the girl, the cops get their man,,,,it's a movie. Made for fun and entertainment. And so Willie Brown saves his soul,,, Big Deal!!! It's great.
Movie Review: The stunt guitarists role model Summary: 5 Stars
Let's face it - this movie is Mecca for guitarists interested in modern "stunt" guitar. The comparison with neoclassical rock (Via) & superbly played slide blues (Cooder) is pure genius. The quality of actors vary (the blues crowd are convincing to me but Ralph seems to have only two personas - "annoyed" & "down trodden"). Steve Via looks a bit wooden whilst in acting mode. When playing he looks like every cool guitarist in the world wrapped up into one (I've seen all of his commercially available dvd's, as well as live on stage twice).
