Movie Review: They Sold Their Souls to Rock and Roll
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a pretty good film. It prompted me to research the Satanic influence on rock and roll and boy did I find a lot. I stumbled upon a documentary on youtube entitled, "They Sold Their Souls to Rock". Unlike musicians who have to follow the ways of Satanist Aliester Crowley, et al. to gain talent and fame, Ralph Macchio's character has natural talent. I figured that if Satan is into music, he must also be into politics and foreign relations and boy did I find the Secret Societies and the New World Order. Satan has power to temp and to deceive people. In fact, God allows him temporary dominion over the world. He even tempted Jesus, "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me.". Matt. 4:9. However, like Robert Johnson and the many who sold their souls for temporary wealth, fame or power, they find out too late that the bargain is unconscionable. "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Mark 8:36. In contrast, Jesus promises us the real bargain, He says, "Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." Matthew 10:39. Unlike Satan's empty promises, Jesus has already proved his by dying on the cross, paying for our sins and rising to live again.

Movie Review: Great movie for blues fans or music fans in general
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember seeing this movie on tv one time (around 2002 I think) and I was entranced from beginning to end. After that, I went looking to buy this movie. I saw it at a big box store, (which will remain nameless) but I had to buy other things that was needed for around the house. I never found it there again. Thank God for Amazon. I found it here and I didn't have to deal with idiots at said store, and I am not talking about the people who work there.

Ralph Macchio took a huge departure from his Karate Kid role when he took this, and I think if he did this instead of Karate Kid, he might have been taken more seriously as an actor. Joe Seneca was great as the old crusty bluesman who is bitter and looking for one last ride. Jamie Gertz nailed the teenage runaway part perfectly. Steve Vei showed his guitar chops in this movie as Jack Butler. Which really IMO made the movie. Walter Hill really did a phenomenal job directing this and I have always been a fan of John Fusco as a writer. I don't think he has never written a script that I haven't liked.

Great acting, great directing, great writing, and the music is phenomenal.

Movie Review: Crossroads
Summary: 5 Stars

Do not let the mixed reviews about this film deceive you. I would say however, it's wider appeal will be for blues fans and those who are interestd in Robert Johnson in particular. Some parts of the movie are based on either facts or legends of Robert Johnson, mostly on the legend of Johnson selling his soul to the spirit Legba at the crossroads in return for the ability of being the best blues player alive. The same happened to one of his associates, Blind Dog. Blind dog later tricks the young Ralph Macchio to help him escape a nursing home in order to go back to the delta in an attempt to nullify his own bargain with Legba. Short of money, they must play the blues in roadhouses and juke-joints along the way to survive, allowing for many adventures. A surprise ending with a "blues head-cutting contest", giving a great array of guitar licks. If macchio wins, then Blind Dogs gets his deal with Legba nullified, but if Legba's man wins, then Macchio then loses his own soul. This is a must for any blues enthusiast! Find out he outcome!

Movie Review: A Blues Music Powerhouse!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie stars Ralph Macchio as Eugene, a Julliard trained Classical Guitarist who is at a sort of "Crossroads" in his young life. He wants to learn how to play The Blues. I felt the same way back when I was 14 and studying Classical Guitar. To realize his dream his enlists the help of Willie Brown, the one time friend of the Legendary Bluesman Robert Johnson. Together they travel down South to the Delta . On their way they encounter a pretty hitchiker, a mean motel owner and have an encounter with the authorities. Joe Seneca is wonderful in this film and so is Macchio and they are both stronly supported by peformances from Jamie Gertz and Dennis Lipscomb both of whom we should see on the screen more often. As an added bonus there is even a Guitar Duel at the climax of the movie betwen Euegene and Steve Vai!!!This movie shows the harsh reality of Life On The Road and as the man said "If you want to play The Blues first you gotta live them"

Movie Review: Blues
Summary: 5 Stars

Sometimes you just know a film can't get any better. `Crossroads' is one of them. Ralph Macchio does a fine job as the young man working toward a dream, and at the same time trying to find the easy way to success by finding that one last, great song by a legendary artist. Macchio becomes the kid who goes from hospital janitor to thumbing rides to "cutting-heads" in a dramatic duel against the diabolic favorite.

But Willy Brown, a harmonica playing bluesman played by Joe Seneca, has the one moment which encapsulates the film. When the girl leaves, Macchio, heart broken, plays Blues guitar for the first time, and Willy Brown says:

Lots of towns
Lots of songs.
Lots of women.
Good times.
Bad times.
The only thing I wanted anybody to say is he could really play.
He was good.

The film is about music, about the Blues.
