Movie Reviews of Crossing DelanceyMovie Review: Crossing Delancey Summary: 5 Stars
The quality of the DVD is excellent, as was the price. I have always loved this movie, and marvel on how the casting types got it so right...A sweet, romantic, lovely film, so removed from the profane laden, violent, and nudity of the products currently favored by Hollywood. "Box Office" for the most part, is the name of the game. So sad! I have watched this movie many times, and it is rarely on TV now, so decided that I wanted to be able to enjoy whenever the mood hit. A feel good movie, for sure. Two of my friends have already borrowed it. I was pleasantly surprised to find it on Amazon, and it arrived within a few days. I now live in New Mexico (what?) but am a native New Yorker and love to see films that were set in NYC. Takes me back to when I walked those streets. :) Wonderful on all levels...Amazon "rocks"!
Movie Review: Crossing Delancey Summary: 5 Stars
Isabelle's life revolves around the New York bookshop she works in and the intellectual friends of both sexes she meets there. Her grandmother remains less than impressed and decides to hire a good old-fashioned Jewish matchmaker to help Isabelle's love-life along. Enter pickle-maker Sam who immediately takes to Isabelle. She however is irritated by the whole business, at least to start with. This movie is, set partly in an old, traditional Jewish neighborhood in Manhattan. Irving, charming, sails right through her role with absolute believability. The rest of the cast is just perfect, including an early role for David Hyde Pierce. The pace and "feel" of this movie is perfect.
Movie Review: Absolutely wonderful!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorite movies, ever. I was very excited to be able to get this, on DVD and would recommend it to anyone. It is a great family movie. It is romantic, funny and beautiful. Amy Irving is gorgeous and the 'late', Reizl Bozyk, who plays Bubbie is funny and warm. Peter Reigert is also adorable as the love interest and the chemistry between him and Amy Irving is fantastic! Buy this movie, if you want a terrific family movie, that will amuse you, entertain you and teach you and your family, some valuable lessons, on what is really important to make your life happy! Movie Review: A nostalgic romance set in downtown New York City Summary: 5 Stars
Amy Irving shines in this nostalgic romance of a tres chic, hip together downtown Manhattan lady whose grandmother hires a marriage broker in her traditional Jewish Community in different part of Manhattan to find her "a kind husband with a good business and nice home". Isabella still revels in her life as manager of a trendy bookstore who spends a lot of her time at work schmoozing local authors to give readings in her shop as their newe novels go on sale. Reizl Boyzik is her grandmother. The men in her life include Jeroen Krabbe, Peter Riegert and John Bedford Lloyd. A gem of a nostalgic downtown New York City romance!
Movie Review: I recommend Crossing Delancey Summary: 5 Stars
As with most viewers, I watched this movie after it's original release.
Reizl Boyzyk, the Yiddish stage actress, puts on an incredible performance as the nosy, yet intentionally good, Bubby Kantor. Amy Irving and Peter Riegert also put on a charming performance of two people who can't seem to 'get it right.' In the end, the romantic style of Sam Posner [Riegert] wins over his lady-love and it's a happy ending. I would suggest this for anyone who is into romantic movies with deep, involved feelings rather than sexual scenes to express emotions between two people who are falling in love. A good movie!
