Movie Reviews of Critters

Movie Review: Sci-Fi/Horror for the entire family... yes, even Grandma down there in the basement!
Summary: 4 Stars

Critters is one of those rare crossover movies that's just as entertaining and fun for the adults as it is for it's targeted younger audience (PG-13). Think Monster Squad, The Gate, or House and you get a pretty good idea at how the movie is structured with enough of an edge to get some actual tension and jumps out of you without having to develop into a terrifying bloodbath. The story revolves around alien creatures (think 80's toy Popples with big teeth) who end up on earth with an insatiable appetite and ready to eat anything and everything in sight. Horror vet Dee Wallace Stone (The Howling, Cujo, Halloween remake) heads up a cast of likeable and believable characters trying to find a way to survive and repel the invasion. The "Critters" themselves are charming and funny while still being vicious and threatening and steal the screen everytime they show up. This is more like a 3.5 star movie (for what it is) but is worth rounding up do to tha ability to enjoy it with your kids (especially around Halloween). Steer clear of the lousy sequels that were cranked out after this movies success.

Movie Review: Another reason why the 80's were the best
Summary: 4 Stars

Seriously, what more could you ask for? Gremlins, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, The Goonies and yes....CRITTERS! While most may disagree, I loved Critters. You find yourself caring about the characters, even the dirty sister up in the barn. And get this...the acting is good too! The effects arent all that bad either, you gotta realize this was made in 1985 and released in 86'. Definatly pick these movies on DVD, they arent confusing either, they all have connection to the previous one. Unlike those Leprechaun films. Infact, part 3 is "to be continued" and the series is finished off in the far future in part 4. It gets real serious in part 4 and the series ends with a huge surprize twist. Get these DVDs on August 5th. I know I am.

Movie Review: ORNERY LITTLE CRITTERS
Summary: 4 Stars

Ah, those memories of the eighties when movies like this were fun and not too gory. CRITTERS is a funny, tongue in cheek look at a bunch of furry critters who come to earth to eat people. My favorite scene is when one of the little devils comes upon a stuffed E.T., asks him who he is and then promptly devours him. Ironic that Dee Wallace Stone who plays the mother in this movie was also in E.T. The movie has lots of laughs, and a few chills along the way. M. Emmet Walsh is the sheriff; Don Opper is the bumbling Charlie; and young Scott Grimes is the boy hero. Catch Titanic and Phantom's Billy Zane in one of his early roles.
Maybe not as much fun as GREMLINS, but still a classic of its kind.

Movie Review: Get ready for an early dinner special!
Summary: 4 Stars

Without a doubt this is one of those fluke hits in the 80's. I mean you have hair ball monsters that can eat just about anything, rolling around, and man-handling a farm. Its stupid beyond anything yes, but it also maintained a horror element. Something that diffenly would get lost on the rest of the movies in the series. Few people will tell you the sequel was better than the first, but personally i liked the 2nd one better. This though is still dang good, but nothing like the epic fight that would be in the next movie. So get the dvd and enjoy a movie that was made when movies were good. They could tell a story, entertain....without the overblown and sometimes embarassing effects of CGI now.

Movie Review: Go fry a Krite.
Summary: 4 Stars

Alien bad buys escape from prison (The Kriten 8). They look like my cats when they have been overfed and sound like Corey Burton. They have a mischievous attitude and lots of teeth. If you get too close they will quill you. If you get in their way you will end up on the menu in their Kriteria. Luckily they are potty trained. However all good things must come to an end and bounty hunters are sent out after the Krites. The fun comes in the three-way interaction and dialog between the Krites, hunters, and humans.
