Movie Reviews of Creepshow (Snap Case Packaging)

Movie Review: What a blast!
Summary: 5 Stars

The movie's tag line is true: "The most fun you'll ever have being scared!" Although this movie is not nearly the scariest one you'll ever see, it sure is entertaining. It succeeds where countless later movies such as "The Crow" failed: cinematically achieving the look and feel of a comic book. As my wife said, "It was just like sitting down and reading one of those old things!" The "things" in question are the gruesome E.C. horror comics, which parents back in the fifties desperately tried to keep their kids from reading.
What's great about the movie are the things that make other movies bad: overacting, exaggerated camera work, cheesy F/X.... these all contribute to the flawless cohesion of the project, staying true to the campy values of the comics. The casting is brilliant, and all the actors charge into their roles with gusto. Particularly good are Adrienne Barbeau as the most shrewish wife ever seen on screen, E.G. Marshall as a neat-freak billionaire, and Leslie Nielson as a cuckold who takes a little too much enjoyment in his revenge. You'll also see a very young Ed Harris, Hal Holbrook at his schmuck-y best, and a pre-"Cheers" Ted Danson. Stephen King stars in one of the five segments, continuing his modest acting career by playing yet another in a long line of slack-jawed idiots... To say King overacts in this role is an incredible understatement, but his ridiculous character and lousy acting add immeasurably to the aforementioned "camp" factor, much as the comics revelled in their own dark humor and healthy doses of irony.
There's no excuse for not liking "Creepshow". (Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the vastly inferior sequel. Avoid it.) Viewers who find it "silly" or "not scary" have missed the point entirely. Another unique little masterpiece from the brilliant minds of George Romero, Tom Savini and good ol' Stevie King.

Movie Review: CREEPSHOW IS THE BEST HORROR FLICK IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Firstly I would like to say that CREEPSHOW is unlike any other horror movie. In other words ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!! CREEPSHOW is a collection of six fantastic mini tales all wrapped up into one EXTREMELY LONG movie!!

THE FRAMING STORY

Billy is a young boy who is deeply engrossed with horror comics. When he buys the first issue collectors edition of the brand new horror comic,CREEPSHOW,his father is furious and throws the precious comic away. The next day Billy uses his voodoo doll to hurt his father with in an evil act of revenge!! 1st story,FATHERS DAY... An evil father exacts revenge on his unlikable family when he comes back from the dead. (IN MY VEIW THIS IS THE BEST STORY!) 2nd story,THE LONESOME DEATH OF JORDY VERRILL... Stephen King plays a hillbilly who finds a meteor, which makes green weed grow all over his body.(THE WORST STORY IN MY VEIW!!) 3rd story,SOMETHING TO TIDE YOU OVER... A man buries a couple on the beach up to their necks, then the tide comes in.They die. They then come back from the dead and get revenge!!(IN MY VEIW AN EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING BLACK COMEDY!!) 4th story,THE CRATE... An evil monster breaks out of a box in a university and goes around murdering everyone.(THE MOST GORY STORY OF THE FILM!!) 5th and final story,THEY ARE CREEPING UP ON YOU... A nasty man with a HUGE FEAR of germs and bugs gets his just desserts when his extremely expensive penthouse apartment is invaded(and I mean INVADED)by huge, mean cockroaches!!(WARNING!!This story has a SICK ending!!)

In conlusion this FANTASTIC movie is an absolute MUST for horror fans everywhere!BUY IT WHILST YOU STILL CAN!!(made in 1982)

Movie Review: GREAT Horror anthology
Summary: 5 Stars

George Romero's Creepshow is one of my very favorite horror films. Five (!!) horror stories are presented in Creepshow, as tales in the horror comic of the same name. The centerpiece of the film, however, is the fourth story, The Crate (also the longest story, at thirty-eight minutes), about a man who feeds his evil wife to a big monster in a crate. The stories are all great fun (Stephen King's turn as Jordy Verrill provides a very humorous tale), and filled with chills and thrills. My personal favorite is the last story, They're Creeping Up On You, which is truly stomach-turning. Those afraid of bugs will be uneasy for a week after seeing this one.

The DVD is part of Warner's budget line ((dollar amount) at most places), so don't expect a whole lot. You get a great, very entertaining horror movie and that's about it. No extras except for a theatrical trailer. The sound is Dolby Surround, and sounds quite good. The image quality is quite good for a film that's 20 years old. It's bright and colorful, with little noticeable shimmering. The picture does have a slight jitter, as a previous reviewer noted, but it's not terribly noticeable. I found that it was more noticeable on the full screen side than on the widescreen, but widescreen is the one you should be watching anyway. This is far from the worst transfer I've ever seen. It's too bad that Warner couldn't have put a little more effort into the DVD, but still it's great to have this great horror flick in digital format.

Movie Review: I WANT MY CAKE!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

That hand popping out of the grave still scares the crap out of me, and I've seen this movie three times! That's the joy of CREEPSHOW. Crafted by the inimitable Stephen King and the imaginative direction of George Romero, CREEPSHOW is a delightfully campy tribute to those great horror comics of the sixties and fifties. Utilizing bizarre and exaggerated lighting and camera angles, effectively moody music and hammy but good performances from a wide cache of actors, CREEPSHOW still manages to entertain, make us smile and even jump every once in a while. The best of the stories is THE CRATE, a tense and spooky tale of a creepy monster and a cuckolded husband's revenge. Brilliantly performed by Hal Holbrook, Fritz Weaver and the bombastic Adrienne Barbeau, this is a tight piece of film-making. The least effective is the Jordy Verill story, not just because Stephen King overdoes it, but it's just not that compelling a story. The other stories all have things going for them: E.G. Marshall in a Scroogelike performance as an evil man who gets bugged by some really ugly cockroaches; Leslie Nielsen and Ted Danson in a cruel game of revenge that backfires; and of course the wonderfully satirical Father's Day where daddy wants his cake. We get Viveca Lindfors, Ed Harris and Carrie Nye in this one!
CREEPSHOW is inspired, and lovingly crafted to please audiences of both horror and comedy.

Movie Review: The most fun you'll ever have being scared!
Summary: 5 Stars

Sometime after doing my review of Creepshow 2 did I realize I didn't review the original. And not wanting to disappoint my (2) fans, I have decide to put the disk back in, and give you my in depth opinion...George A. Romero("Dawn of the Dead"," Day of the Dead"," Martin")after huge success with "Dawn of the Dead" directed his another masterpiece-an anthology of five short stories called "Creepshow". The script was written by Stephen King, and the special effects were made by F/X wizard Tom Savini("Martin","Maniac","The Prowler"). The first story "Father's Day" is so-so-nothing special, but the zombie looks terrific; the second story "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verril" is the funniest, Stephen King steals the show as a Jordy,a goofy farmer, who finds a strange meteor; the third story "Something To Tide You Over" is my favorite-it's ghastly, creepy, funny and a little bit disturbing, again great make-up of the drowned zombies; the fourth story "The Crate" is the longest and goriest-there's a lot of suspense and plenty of gore mixed with black humour. Finally we are getting to the last story "Creeping Up On You"-an enjoyable story about cockroaches with some rather gross special effects. Overall I must say that I love "Creepshow"-surely they don't make them like this anymore. So, check it out! In fact, I will hold my breath as you do. Because I can hold my breath for a long, long time.
