Movie Reviews of CreatorMovie Review: If you get the big picture, you'll love this movie Summary: 5 Stars
What is the big picture? Well, you have to see the movie to understand what I'm talking about. Personally, I think I get the big picture and that's why I love this movie so much.
Peter O'Toole is great in this. So are Vincent Spano, Virginia Madsen, Mariel Hemingway, and David Ogden Stiers.
What can I say about this story? It's sometimes hard for me to explain it to people who haven't seen it. When some people hear "a man tries to regrow his dead wife" they sort of cringe and think it's some sort of weird sci fi or horror movie.
It's neither - it's a love story. Actually, it's several love stories. You've got the love Harry has for his late wife, the love between him and Millie, the love between Boris and Barbara, and even the love (non-romantic) between Boris and Harry.
Still, Creator is far from a typical "love story." It's very unique. I've never seen another movie quite like it.
It's got a great cast and great story with a nice mix of humor, drama, and romance. If you haven't seen it, you should give it a try.
If you're the sort of person who gets "the big picture," you'll probably end up liking this movie a lot.
Movie Review: A gift from God Summary: 5 Stars
Jeremy Leven's genius rivals that of Dr. Harry Wolper, Creator's 'self-titled' protagonist. If you have ever loved, if you have ever lost, if you have ever mourned, if you have ever prayed for a miracle, this movie will leave you laughing and in tears (I promise that will make sense once you've seen the movie). Dr. Harry Wolper is a prize-winning biologist working at a prestigious medical College. He is well published, well-respected, and administers a huge research grant representing the bulk of his department's funding. Known only to his closest friends, Dr. Wolper's prize and grant winning discoveries however, are merely incidental offshoots of his primary research - the restoration of his wife Lucy, who died 30 years earlier. Every aspect of this film shines like a star in the night sky - the casting, the acting, the dialogue, the storyline, the attention to detail... Creator is a masterpiece, and I recommended it without reservation. One final note - the film version of Creator differs significantly from the novel on which it was based. Personally, I greatly prefer the film version, but if you are going to find out for yourself, my recommendation would be to see the movie first.
Movie Review: Simply Uplifting! Summary: 5 Stars
This is, by all accounts, one of those gems that was grossly overlooked by audiences the world over, including (and most tragically) the Academy of Motion Picture Arts. This movie was one of the first that would not leave my memory days after the initial viewing. Nearly twenty years and hundreds of viewings later, it still has that same affect. The cast, the score, and most importantly the story, are all simply beyond expression. This movie features, without a doubt, the best performances from all of its cast, and a score that deserves to be released many times over in every format known to man. Most disappointing to me is the lack of features available on the DVD version! That aside, few movies these days have the heart and passion that Creator delivers, and most of all, the courage to portray a genius who believes in God! Buy it in whatever format works for you, because ultimately it is not the format or packaging that makes this movie so special. I guarantee Creator will make you laugh, cry, shout, and believe.
Movie Review: Best movie, ever! Summary: 5 Stars
What can I say that has not already been said. Via the most unlikely premise of a man trying to clone his dead wife; the story, the characters and the actors of this beautiful film convey a message of love, hope and humanity which is deeply inspiring. This is best movie you've probably never heard of. I am so delighted that it's made the transition to DVD. It would be a crime for this movie to be lost. I first saw this movie as a young teenager and nearly twenty years latter I've yet to be touched as deeply by anything in print, film or music. (Alright, "Schidler's List", moved me more, but this movie will move you equally far in the direction of joy.) If you take a chance on only one old-movie-you've-never-heard-of-but-people-seem-crazy-about this year: if you only take one chance like this your in your whole life, make it this movie.
Movie Review: Most People Grow Tomatoes, Not Harry Wolper! Summary: 5 Stars
This has got to be one of the best kept secrets of modern films. I believe it was a HBO movie and never played in the theaters, but don't let this discourage you from seeing it. This is a warm, intellectually slapstick and romantic comedy that will touch you in ways no other film can. With innocence and joy, it captures one of the most beautiful love scenes I have ever seen on screen. Peter O'Toole is wonderful. One of his best scenes was when O'Toole (having no lines), walks along the beach with his young assistant after the death of the boy's father. I could say more, but there's no need. The reviews speak for themselves. This is a keeper. Oh! Keep an eye open for Opie's dad. Do you believe in life on other planets? Very cute!
